Shroom hunting Mushroom Hunting in Nova Scotia

i live in new glasgow and i cant seem to find any good mushrooms around here to pick for myself..can anyone help me out here?

Labmonkey would recommend getting a few books on the subject and joining your local mycology club to learn all about the wonderful hobby that is mushroom hunting.
Don't be swayed by the fact that it may be some time before getting to the point where you will be able to find anything magic for your pet sloth to nibble on for kicks. Hunting mushrooms is like hunting for easter eggs, a joy no matter what kind you find.
Learn field taxonomy, how to make spore prints, environmental niches for particular species and in the case of psilocybes your sloth may want to try Metol solution. Be sure to learn about poisonous mushrooms such as the galerina autumnalus, etc that may be mistaken by the unweary as psilocybes (leading to painful death).
Hopefully someone may find this thread on beginning mushroom ID I'm working on a helful place to start. Also you may want to see if anyone has listed anything in your area in this very helpful thread.

Cococybe Tenera are also easy to mistake P. Similanceata and contain the same deadly a & b Amatoxins as the Galerinas. Mycenas look very similar - but will just make you sick as a dog.

I live around NG, too and Haven't seen many around at all

Swim used to live in Antigonish not far from New Glasgow in the mid 90's. There were plenty of shrooms around then. There are plenty of farms and cow pastures in the area swiCanadianfool, those are the areas to hit. Also it might be a little early. Swim found closer to Halloween to be more plentiful. AAhh good times.

Keep hunting and tell us how the shrooms are doing in Nova Scotia this year. Remember there are no I's on the forum.
