20-kilo (41 lbs) shroom...
Here's a picture I came across today showing the largest sporocarp I've ever seen. It's of the species macrocybe titans. It's not a magic mushroom, but it's still amazing:
"A more than 20-kilo (41-lb) mushroom has been picked in a forest in Mexico's southernmost state of Chiapas, university officials said Tuesday. The white mushroom, macrocybe titans, measured a towering 70 cm (27 in) tall, was found near Tapachula, near the Guatemalan border, according to the Southern Border University Center." http://www.breitbart.com/article.php...=1&image=large |

"Wow, this thing is amazing!"
"It's a wonder of nature!" "It's a miracle!" "Let's kill it!" "Yeah!" |

I think it's time that mycologists start doing WHATEVER IT TAKES to cross-breed!

^^^ yes, this is where the mad scientist genetic engineers with a dream would come in handy. Labmonkey would just loooove to lounge atop a giant mushroom nibbling at its edges like the caterpiller in alice... hookah optional.

Re: 20-kilo (41 lbs) shroom...
SWIM once had a cubensis that weighed a little over an ounce dry.... SWIM thought that was spectacular. And it was one of the strongest per weight SWIM had ever ingested...
Does anyone know anything about the chemistry of this fungus ? |

SWIM remembers reading that mushrooms that are mature enough to drop their spores are not as potent (gram vs gram) as mushrooms that have not opened their veils yet. SWIM would love to learn why/if this is actually so. |

Re: 20-kilo (41 lbs) shroom...
Imagine if that would have been Psilocybe cubensis instead of Macrocybe titans. Heh. The whole world could have tripped with that, almost I guess.

How about a photo. Anyone with something that big I'm pretty sure would've taken a photo.

Don't you just love how they ripped it out of the ground, it's sad that man has little or no respect for nature in most cases.
