Re: To state that booze is OK but other drugs are bad is societal hypocrisy.
The only people that seem to be able to use alcohol in moderation are those that dislike it,well I can't see why anyone likes it.It is the absolute shittiest drug in existence. What is fun about watching the room spin and vomiting? And even if someone drinks in moderation that damage to the liver will slowly build up over time so I can't see any benefit to this foul, evil shit.

Re: To state that booze is OK but other drugs are bad is societal hypocrisy.
saying alcohol is the dirtyest drug is complete bullshit. you're forgetting about otc's like asprin, which as we do more and more research, it does more harm than good. And the same goes with tylenol. but since that's a little different than what we're talking about, you're still forgetting drugs like cocaine. one is not saying that cocaine is necisarilly bad, but what we're injesting random chemicals because the government is to blind to see that they can make literally BILLIONS through legalization, from sales tax, and income tax of the shop owners, and they can regulate purity. It's all personal opinion on what the "dirtiest" drug is, but most will agree it's the synthetic drugs that are made in someone's trailer in the middle of bumblefuck, (and they're probably fucked up while processing) since they're there for profit, and not for the better of mankind.

Re: To state that booze is OK but other drugs are bad is societal hypocrisy.
Crash, I tried to make it clear I was speaking of addictive drugs when I said it is the dirtiest of they, and I made a point to say I was only speaking of using Alcohol to get messed up, not just a drink or two a day. Despite my attempts to avoid someone coming in and misunderstanding me, here we go: I didn't say it was the most harmful drug period, plenty of drugs that aren't addictive are very harmful. Compare the long term effects of abusing alcohol to any other addictive drug; and find one that causes as many health problems as quickly and makes the user still suffer from addiction.
The only addictive drug that rivals alcohol in terms of likely health damage is Tobacco, which may be the only one that does more harm, though due to Alcohol's ability to cause violence, I highly doubt Tobacco is worse. As far as Alcohol being enjoyable, that is a matter of opinion. Swim will drink Alcohol to get buzzed perhaps three times a year, a very rare occasion, because there are better drugs to do for social relaxation without nearly as many or any of the side effects of Alcohol. Swim personally thinks the quote from "confessions of an opium eater" really sums it up. Swim can't remember verbatim, but it basically says Alcohol makes a man a moron while opium enhances a man's good qualities. That isn't to say Opium is the only drug better than Alcohol, pretty much any addictive drug is more enjoyable than Alcohol in Swim's opinion, a big part of the reason they're enjoyable is they make one feel good as Alcohol can, just without all the shitty side effects. If Alcohol didn't cause so many problems, they'd still be using it to put people under for surgeries, they'd be using it for pain relief, they'd be using it for preventing seizures, etc. The fact of the matter is, everything about Alcohol from its taste to its ability to cause cancer makes it an inferior drug. It is just very ingrained in Western Civilization, therefore, it is a tradition we carry on just because. Alcohol has its values, they're just in conflict with Swim's. As said earlier, I don't think Alcohol should be illegal anymore than any other drug; but, it needs to stop treated as though it isn't all it is: an addictive drug, and probably the most harmful of all. If the Alcoholic prohibitionists didn't love to point their finger at addicts to other types of drugs, pretend Alcohol isn't an addictive drug; I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to attack Alcohol as a drug or its addicts. Bcubed, I don't see how the obama versus Sharpton thing is relevant here. I see the point you're trying to make, it just doesn't have a good parallel to this, in my opinion. All I said about the harm of Alcohol is based on cold hard fact. Cheers! |

Re: To state that booze is OK but other drugs are bad is societal hypocrisy.
At least people who use illegal drugs are either A) very pleasant and sociable and/or B) do it behind closed doors/keep themselves to themselves.
In my experience/opinion people who drink alcohol are often loud, obnoxious and offensive and insist on thrusting themselves onto other innocent (sober) members of the public going about (trying to go about) their daily business. SWIM would rather spend her time in the company of a drug user (don't care if its a loved-up clubber or a stoner or what), than a drunk any day of the week. |
