Negative Cannabis Reaction?

SWIM has a friend, who has an intensely negative reaction to marijuana. He reports full blown hallucinations, plants and trees around him dying, turning to ash, falling over and shrivelling up... He also reports seeing fire, things that are red turning very bright and wilting as if burned, he sees "eyes" in things, IE driving behind a car and the tailights turn into glowing red eyes glaring at him. He gets paranoid, feels EXTREMELY light headed, the world around him shakes violently, and he feels very depressed and sad. These effects can be triggered by being 20 or 30 feet away from second hand marijuana smoke, by barely catching a whiff...

Do SWIY's have any information on why this may be happening to him? Anything that may stop this reaction? He has smoked several times, it has happened 4/8 times. He stopped smoking for this reason, and now reports the effects happening when he does not smoke, IE catching smells of bud etc... SWIM wishes his friend could enjoy all the pleasure marijuana brings SWIM, but this reaction is in the way. It has become severe to the point where he gets flashbacks several days later, without the presence of marijuana.

He reports that it feels similar in effect to an intense bad trip - though he has not experienced one from psychedelics, only marijuana. Because of this feeling, he has stopped his psychedelic use entirely because he doesn't want to experience a bad trip on psychedelics. SWIM knows weed is psychoactive, but these effects seem a little out of the ordinary....

Do any swimmers have any insight as to why it might be happening? SWIM's friend is about to go off to a new place to live, where he will be exposed to mass quanities of second-hand smoke and it would be nice to figure this out so he isn't bothered by his roommates smoking etc...
