Cultivation - When to harvest leaves?

Swim got 2 plants with a total of about 6 leaves each last fall. After cultivating them and moving to bigger containers swim's plants seem to be doing pretty good. Swim has a few concerns though.

Swim is pretty sure you should harvest leaves when fresh (especially if attempting a quid) but because of the smaller size of the plants so far swim has resorted to just collecting the leaves that fall off. Most of them are about half brown from dehydration.

Swims question is will the being brown affect how much salvinorin-a they have? Swim will be doing his own extracting when he gets enough leaves. Swim thinks that the salvinorin-a will still be in the leaves but wants to be sure so he doesn't waste time collecting these brown leaves.
