Quote:
This is a methylated derivative of LSD which is used to prevent migraine headaches. We found that it had effects similar to LSD on schizophrenic children.
It seems to be more toxic than LSD-25 if taken over a period of time, like ergotamine, but that shouldn't be a problem for experimental use.

Shulgin mentions it in TIHKAL, but he doesn't appear to have tasted it himself.

Quote:
UML-491, Methysergide, Sansert. This is the synthetic homologue of methergine (1-methyl) and is employed clinically as a treatment for migraine headaches. When the usual therapeutic dosage of two milligrams is scaled up by a factor of ten, there is a profound LSD-like response described by most subjects. A number of these ergot analogues from nature can be considered as potential precursors for the preparation of LSD. But here, there is a 1-methyl group that is effectively permanently attached, so it cannot play this role.
It might be available as an OTC medicine. SWIM hasn't tried it, however. It would be interesting to know more.

Re: Methysergide - anyone tried it

SWIM has never had experience with the substance. It seems that its dangers far outweigh its benefits. SWIY would have to take an almost toxic dose to hallucinate, and the vasioconstriction is enhanced greatly by substances as common as nicotine and caffeine. This does not look wortwhile. Its use has been discontinued in the United States, though it may still be available in other countries. Toxicity would make it undesirable to produce in a clandestine setting due to lack of profit/undesirability.

There's probably plenty of it out there somewhere, though. Just doesn't seem worth it:

Another drug occasionally used to prevent migraine headaches is methysergide maleate (Sansert). Methysergide maleate has been discontinued in the United States, but it may still be available from other countries. Its use must be limited due to the relatively high number of side effects that are associated with taking it. Dizziness, drowsiness, flushing, heartburn, insomnia, and stomach upset may all be caused by methysergide maleate. Long-term use may result in heart or lung changes. Methysergide maleate should be taken no longer than 6 months at a time, doses should be decreased gradually, and at least 3 to 4 weeks must be allowed before starting it again. Individuals taking methysergide maleate need to be supervised closely by a healthcare professional who is familiar with its use.
