Ensam patches for Maoi

very simple question
swim is wondering if a transdermal maoi such as Ensam would work for an oral dmt brew..... ensam works on the concept (swim believes but correct him if he is wrong) that it only effects maoi-a instead of maoi-a and b which allow for cheeses and meats to be consumed while on the medication. He knows someone that takes the medication and was told that he was able to eat these certain foods but when his dosage was raised he had to change his diet.... sooo ye its kinda theoretically question that swim doubts he will try but watcha think?

I was reading about this on Wikipedia, it is supposed to be a safer alternative, I do not know how well it would work though, because I know that for instance, syrian rue inhibits the enzymes in the stomach, which is where the ingested dmt would first meet the enzymes.

There are studies that indicate a lack of MAO-A style pressor interactions from tyramine even at the highest dose of the EMSAM patch, I will provide these for you when I find them. At the point that the patches were released, the FDA felt (in their infinite, universal wisdom!) that there wasn't enough study to give a no-diet the a-ok.

Regardless, in several human clinical studies pressor reactions to tyramine were not found at the highest dose of EMSAM. Will post them in a bit ...

It is likely that since MAO-A inhibition has indeed been shown to occur at higher dosages (furthermore, as selegiline irreversibly inhibits MAO-B within several days, daily dosing would eventually begin to work on MAO-A), the EMSAM patch may effectively bypass the gut.

So the question is, does the rapid metabolism that prevents DMT from working alone occur in the gut, or elsewhere due to enzymatic activity (say, in the blood).

well i believe that when it is taken orally most of it is metabolized by MAO in the stomach, although if it is in the plasma, the plasma could also be secreted in the stomach and still could maintain effectiveness. i'm not positive on this only using logic and some knowledge of the subject. the reason i think this is that DMT has an effect when taken IM Intra Muscular. Which I think says something about where most of it is destroyed.
