Do I need to get adderall?
I honestly don't even know where to start here but I'll give it ago. Forever I have pretty much just told my self add is non-existant and it's just my own fault that I did like shi* in school and I never wanted to study. I just always blamed it on stress and laziness... and now here I am 18 and I'm going to be starting college in a couple of months... I honestly don't think I'll be able to make it through college without some kind of thing like adderall.
I honestly love to learn and consider myself quite an intellectual person but it just feels like every thing in my brain is scattered everywhere. I can be doing a simple math equation and know exactly how the problem works and is solved, but if they have it setup wierd and the page around it is cluttered then it makes my head want to explode. I'll sit there and look at it forever until I finally focus 100% of my brain on that problem. I can be reading a page of my book and be sitting there reading the words but my head will just be completely in a different world.. I have taken adderall before. I took one while on a road trip with some friends a while back and they said it was like I was a completely different person. I carried myself with better posture, spoke more clearly, and was just very polite. While normally I tend to drag my feat, mumble, and can get easily frustrated with people... Also my mom offered me some concerta before I finally ended up quitting school. I had never enjoyed math so much in my life. I spit out the answer to every question before anyone in the room.. People I dont know if I'm just lazy or if add is real but if anybody cared to read all that some insight and feed back on it would be just the best thing ever.. thanks alot! |

Re: Do I need to get adderall?
That all depends on whether you would abuse the substance or not. If past experiences with Adderall have been beneficial then my answer is yes. But it's a addictive substance and you can become carried away very quickly before you even know it happened.

Re: Do I need to get adderall?
let me ask swiy if he has piles of papers or books in his room, that is one question and the other are you real sensitive to noises or people touching you? if you answered yes to one of those and given your previous statements then I would say yes you have what has now turned into adult add. I would n't worry about abusing adderall or dexidrine, it wont get you high like other people, it will have you sleepy if you take more than prescribed. so go to doctor and explain situation, if a parent goes with you to back up story it would help big time.

Re: Do I need to get adderall?
There are many self-diagnose tests available on the internet with check lists to see if you match the symptoms, try google.
I have ADD as well and can certainly say amphetamine is beneficial, hell it radically changed my life once I started on it. SWIM also happens to be prescribed dexedrine, just like me, and he has done plenty of amphetamine and other dopaminergic uppers. Since he's on dexedrine he doesn't have any need for them at all, actually the opposit, you could put him in a room with a kilo of cocaine, amphetamine or methamphetamine and he wouldn't take a bit, he sees no point in them anymore. Though it can be opposite as well for some people, being stuck with a script for dozens of pharmaceutical amphetamines can be too tempting for others, but you have to be honest with yourself, only you know if it would pose any problems. |

Re: Do I need to get adderall?
Ok swim says disreguard other advice given except the poster above her is saying some wise things. Swiy is starting college? How did swiy get through high school without meds? Did swiy love high school or dreaded it and nothing made sense. He would say oh I passed that is what counts. Did swiy get in trouble a lot for outbursts in class or couldn't sit still? Oh goodness, college is a different world, the professors don't give a hoot if swiy passes or fails and yes would need to see a professional doctor if add or adhd symptioms are there. If swiy has the condition, he should see a dramastic change on day 1. If swiy sees no change, there is something else going on so testing would have to be done. But as I read this, it sounds ongoing and would tend to think swiy may have an add condition. Now for meds, take only what the doctor gives, not more. If swiy feels no effect after a while, tell the doc and he will up the dosage. Make sure swiy has a good doctor that monitors him on a regular basis and does bloodwork not just signs off on a script each month. Swiy has to have liver checks to make sure it isn't at toxic levels. Also bloodpressure and heart such as stresstests will need to be done. There is no shame in having this condition. Please seek professional help on this, don't just score some addys and try this on your own. OHHH don't let them talk you in Strattera, it doesn't work well, Adderall tends to be the best in your situation. Dexies are a bit strong unless you are bouncing off the walls. It just sounds like add based on what you are saying. Adderall would probably be best, but there are a few other good ones, few, so make sure to keep the doc informed if whatever dosage or meds he puts you on doesn't work. The dosage may need to be higher or lower or meds changed if swiy doesn't feel the need for them. Swim can smell a speed freak a mile away. LOL! I really don't think you are one.
Also swim's son is 18 like you, and swim is going to have him put on adderall this year. He is really really struggling with school and is a good drop out candidate if something isn't done. Yes tests were done on him and he is adhd, like swiy except very hyper. Swim resisted putting him on meds for years but doesn't want him to be a thug. Also just thought, adderall comes in xr=extended release or ir=immediate release. With the extended release it does work but will not kick in as fast. The irs tend to cause abuse with the speed freaks thus why they came up with xrs. Anyway irs kick in almost immediately but if on them I say again, take in therapudic doses or as the doctor prescribes and it can once again be adjusted if swiy has trouble falling asleep or eating. if swiy really wants help for a real condition. The xr's are what swim gives her kids because you wouldn't have to constantly redose and they stay in your system longer. If you are in a class when it is time to take a med and can't xrs may be best. Ir's you have to take on a regimented schedule. Last edited by cyndi; 06-07-2007 at 15:20. |

Re: Do I need to get adderall?
Thanks alot everyone. I do not want to abuse the drug at all, all I want out of it is just for things to be in balance. I want to be leveled out so I can concentrate and such. I have had trouble with pills in the past and I know the temptation to abuse them would be there. I've been drug free for several months though now so I think I will be able to resist the temptation. But once again thanks everyone this all helped alot!

Re: Do I need to get adderall?
Ok, swim sees swiy has had problems in the past. Swiy does know that a lot of speed addicts try to level out on their own due to stigma but sometimes it gets out of hand as swiy said. If swiy sees a problem with handling his own meds, give it to mom or sig other to dose out to swiy. Swim has to give meds to the school nurse or well you know. Uh um. Anyway we won't go there. But seriously see a doc and get help. Swim knows from your post that you are not trying to find a hook up, see a doctor.
