One of SWIM's best friend's sister was put in the hospital recently. The young minor, was out drinking with 24 year olds, and her friends left her in the bathroom drunk.

It was only lucky that her brother's friends saw the 24 YEAR OLDS DRAGGING HER UNCONSCIOUS BODY behind a building and called the right people in time. She luckily wasn't raped, but was foaming at the mouth and obviously unresponsive when they found her body.

It was originally thought to be just alcohol poisoning cus she had quite a huge BAC when getting in the hospital, but when she woke up, she stated that she couldn't feel her legs. That was of course a red flag that it wasn't just alcohol, and she tested positive for GHB. Didn't remember any of it.

Just had to state this, cus honestly, it's sad that fuckin people as young as 24 try to fuckin rape 16 year old girls in a relatively safe wealthy community. This drug is everywhere and rising. SWIM was told a while back ago in his health/drivers ed class that this drug would become popular, didn't know it would come so close to home.

Anyways, my question is.....aside from this tragic story, when would GHB ever cause someone to lose feeling in his/her legs? Is that only when combination with a lot of alcohol or is that just normal after GHB poisoning? (as in...taking too much GHB for the person's body weight.)

I'm sorry if this will sound mean but don't blame GHB, blame the people who did it. So "fucking idiots with GHB" is really more appropriate for the topic title. It doesn't take GHB to do that, alcohol is enough but people only seem to see the "drug" side of this. "This drug is everywhere and rising." is just your panic talking.

As for the topic, SWIM hasn't heard about of anyone who didn't feel their legs because of GHB. Maybe just a mental shock ? Does she feel her legs now ?

Yeah sorry the title confuses people. SWIM meant it in the way that people can get a hold of a drug that can be incredibly useful if trying lure someone in. And yes, alcohol can be quite enough, SWIM firmly believes that it was the alcohol that played the main danger, the GHB was just a plus.

And it aint just SWIM's panic talking, SWIM has heard of hundreds of GHB cases involving date rape, he just wasn't prepared for something so close to him.

How can it not be on the rise. The reputation "You can fuck people (literally), and they and no one else will remember it's you" sounds pretty catchy to many people out there. SWIM knows quite well that this did invovle a minor who should have not been in the scenario in the first place, but think about adults. Legal to drink, can be slipped into a drink, nothing the person can do about it. It is definitely on the rise, and it's not just SWIM's panic.

And yes, she has feeling in her legs now.

....there are more things than just GHB that will enable you to fuck someone's brains out with out them or anyone else remembering, alcohol being the most commonly used. Why anyone would do this, I do not know, but benzos could be used to do the same thing. Rohypnol was dubbed the "date rape drug" and became illegal in many places. Now, the pills will turn a drink completely blue, and people are still calling it the date rape drug. Most people don't even know what flunitrazepam is. It's one of the most effective benzos in swims opinion. Xanax (alprazolam) could just as easily be used as a date rape drug as well as some other strong sedatives but they are still legal.

GHB got labeled "the date rape drug" and guess what????? it became schedule 1 many places, except when it is prescribed under the name "Xyrem." Funny how GHB is schedule 1 but xryem is not. Funny how marijuana is schedule 1 and marinol is not. See where this is leading? It is unfortunate that people fall victim to these date rape scenarios but 90% of the time, SWIM bets the cases involve alcohol. Some assholes couldn't keep their hands out of the cookie jar, so no GHB for SWIM.....at least not legally

Besides the whole date-rape thing it is interesting that GHB OD seems to cause leg paralysis is some individuals

Every time SWIM has used GHB the first effects of intoxication start in the feet/lower legs and then progresses to cower all of the legs. It's a kind numbness or tingling and it feels pretty good, but I can see how it for an unknowing victim ca be a scary experience.

SWIM thinks the fuckers got away, SWIM isn't sure though. SWIM hopes they're caught and in jail, cus if not and SWIM and SWIY's friend find out who it is, they'll be in jail with those fuckers after what they do.


So SWIY says it starts in the legs? Maybe just a lot of it really affects the leg. SWIM isn't positive...GHB is one of the few drugs SWIM isn't that familiar with.

Yes, it is a common effect, in fact, it is the only thing SWIM finds in doses below 3 grams. It feels like cold liquid going through your veins. maybe some smart guy can post the reason of this. It's more noticeable when lying down

For SWIM the effects are opposite, when he's stationary, like sitting on a chair or standing still for a while when the GHB kicks in, he always feel a warm glow spreading through his lower legs to his upper legs and than the rest of the body.
But back on topic, things like this are the reason GHB has such a bad reputation, though it's horrible what some individuals misuse it for, it does have plenty of good sides as well, SWIM doesn't think it's the fault of the drug as well, but the fault of the people who misuse it.

This case involves an unknown amount of alcohol and and unknown amount of GHB *or* GBL. Whilst it would be extremely difficult to spike someone's drink with GBL due to the vile taste, if they were already very drunk then they may be coerced into believing they were taking some sort of cocktail "shot".

The link kindly provided by Lehendakari reports an attempted suicide by GBL overdose that resulted in, what they referred to, as rhabdomyolysis. This, in my opinion given the information provided, would lead me to suspect that GBL was the guilty party, not GHB as GBL is converted in-vivo.

As the girl had consumed alchohol, her liver was already working hard and, I would imagine, had to work that much harder if GBL were introduced thus raising the chances of her suffering from rhabdomyolysis and experiencing the problems with her legs.

As for the supposed spectre of rising G abuse, please do not be fooled by well meaning, but ignorant, pillars of society who can hold it up as the devil's water and scare the bejesus out of parents.

Alcohol has become unquestioningly accepted as a recreational substance yet it has been used for many many more years as a perfectly legal drug with which to commit date-rape.

Never forget that the problems we have in our society are not caused by the tools we use, but how we have decided to use them.

First of all, SWIM just wants to update for the record that they caught the sick fuck(s) who did it and they're being convicted of like attempted murder, attempted rape...and some other shit.........

Alcohol, though legal, has indeed been used as date rape drug, however GHB is just easier and much more powerful in a sense. The girl found had bruises on her mouth, which is most likely evidence that they were forcing her to drink (probably forcing glasses and bottles in her mouth, it's not like they'd hit her that hard for anything else). So the point is, they had to go through so much effort to get her to drink so much before she could really be taken advantage of.

With GHB (or GBL if ur drunk enough), you only need one shot of hard liquor, it'll mask any taste, champaigne maybe, might be noticed. The girl, being an experienced drinker, probably got the guys so fed up with her not "cooperating" that at that point they spiked her drink....just SWIM's guess.

SWIM does not disagree, it's definitely the idiots that use the drugs. SWIM has to believe this because the same situation applies to SWIM's drug of choice -> salvia. Not exactly date rape, but idiots abusing it are making it illegal.

Before that there were things like chloral hydrate, valium, barbituates, etc. The real problem is men who treat woman (or other men) as sexual playthings put on Earth for their amusement. There was a story out of Greenfield, Massachusetts that is too horrendous to post. But suffice to say - psychopaths didn't spring to life with the the invention of GHB or GHL. Though the media may have helped. That's their job.

Actually, I would disagree with this. GHB has been labelled the "date rape drug" for as long as SWIM remembers, and while he's not an early adopter so to speak, that's been at least 4 or 5 years. I don't know where you get the idea its only recently labelled as such. I believe that was one of the main public relations moves they used to get it scheduled (in 2000). It has also been notably more difficult to find for SWIM in recent years, though he hasn't been actively seeking it so he's not positive that's a reflection of the overall state of things.
As far as convenience, xanax equally 'convenient,' covert, and much easier to get a hold of. The difference: hundreds of thousands of people are addicted to it, creating huge profits for "legitimate" businesses.

GBL was the single best thing SWIM ever discovered, and SWIM wishes SIWM had sprung for the 55 gallon drum. SWIM's best, most productive years consisted of GBL every day. SWIM slept like a baby, was able to control mood swings, and has a healthy dose of recreational use too. SWIM has gone downhill since then since nothing has come to replace it. No, SWIM didn't drink it neat. I think that would be impossible - just the thought of a drop of that stuff on my tongue makes me cringe. It was diluted about 50:1 with water, and it still tasted terrible. Actually "taste" is the wrong word - it's more like a burning feeling with a burnt plastic odour.
