Does using Heroin after long periods of time just bring the user to baseline?

SWIM was speaking to a recovering Heroin addict who mentioned that after a few years of copious use, the only high he got from it was that it brought him back to baseline, because when he was clean the depression and amotivation he felt was far below normal emotional function. Is this true? Is there a point you reach where all the drug does is make you feel how you should sober?

Only while addicted and that would be dosage dependant. Baseline itself is a subjective term to do with how one feels and swim knows some junkies who think their baseline should be pure bliss, whereas that is not a realistic baseline.
When Swim was a junkie and would do his normal dosage he would be able to function and hold down his job, and be more chipper than he would if he was clean and sober without addicition.
How one should feel sober really is a realativistic term. It is impossible to accurately quanitfy without crawling inside someone elses skin.

But yeah. For some people, rising tolerance does mean that they get to the point where using keeps them functioning, but they rarely have enough money to get amounts that would get them recreationally high.

And here is one of the basic tragedies of opiates.Ofcourse even at that point swim gets a little euphoria simply because he is happy he isn't feeling bad after he gets his fix.
