re-dosing question

Hi all,

SWIM took two co-codamols (30mg codein 500mg Paracetamol) and one Dihydrocodein tablet (30mg) total 90mg codein/1000mg paracetamol. SWIM said he got the high he wanted but this fell off after a couple of hours and wants the same effect! How long should SWIM wait as I have heard that re-dosing too soon will not work as codeine inhibits the enzyme that turns it into morphine in the brain.

If SWIM was to take two dhydracodeine and two co-codamaol after say 3 hours of the first dose would this be worthwhile or should a longer period between doses be had?

SWIM suffers back pain and has also been prescribed diclofenac but does not take these are they sound full of crap!

Thanks

Re: re-dosing question

SWIM wouldn't really recommend re-dosing like that. Even if SWIY hasn't used codeine recently, a second dose in such a short period of time will already be affected by tolerance issues. SWIY would be better off waiting a couple days, or even one day, and doing it again.

But if SWIY is insistent on lengthening the experience, waiting 3 hours after the first dose shouldn't make the second dose lose much (if any) potency due to the body being unable to convert it. The liver converts almost all of a codeine dose in about 30 minutes to 1 hour if SWIM remembers correctly, so after that period of time one would be able to take another dose of codeine and have it fully converted.

Make sure SWIY doesn't overdose. Codeine has a half-life of about 3 hours, so if SWIY is taking high doses, like 400mg, re-dosing after 3 hours means there would still be about 200mg remaining in the body, and adding another 400mg on top of that is getting into dangerous territory.

Re: re-dosing question

Swit wouldn't take that much paracetamol (acetaminophen) either. He would do a cold-water extraction instead.

SWIM suffers back pain
No judgement, just a statement of my opinion: in general, those who have chronic pain problems for which they use prescription opiods/opiates would be well-off not to muck about with them recreationally, it's just inviting problems.
