Re: Abilify (Aripiprizole)

It's pretty much the only weight-neutral anti-psychotic on the market. The vast majority of users find it more activating than sedating.

Aripiprazole ( Abilify )

Swim has been on these meds for about 4 months now and has found them to be one of the better anti-psychotics that swim has been on. Swim knows that it's to early for any of the more worrying side effects to happen but would like to hear from anyone else who has been on this medication for over 6 months or maybe even a year and find out how they are coping on it. Swim is happy to hear from anyone who has knowledge about this drug and its prlonged use and possible side-effects as my last few meds have caused me serious problems after being on them for some time, first was Olanzapine (this caused me to have two seizures one of which was whilst behind the wheel of swims works van ) and the last one was seroquel ( this one swim tried to commit suicide ) so you can understand swims worries as swim doesn't want to get 12 months down the line to go through similar things again.

This is the only Anti-Psychotic Swim will take. It has no side-effects, helps even suppress the appetite, doesn't dull the senses or cause too much fatigue and unlike seroquel it is easy to get off of if there were any problems. Swim has found that after prolonged use it seems you need less of the drug and it starts to feel like you are in full recovery of the symptoms that it was treating.

You seem to be over-worrying on the area of medications. You know, it just depends on the individual. You probably know this, but every single human's brain is different. My experience might not be the same as yours.
So, I could be on abilify for the rest of my life and not have any problems.

There are three major negatives to anti-psychotics:
1. Neuroleptic Malignant Syndome- which is a fatal disease that is very rare but can be caused by neuroleptic drugs like anti-psychotics
2. Diabetes can be caused by the meds
3. Dementia or Alzhiemer's....which I don't know why they cause that but that happens in older people.

Those are what swiy need to worry about most. But as far as side-effects are concerned that's something swiy need to see by carefully adjusting the meds. Make sure swiys doctor knows what he/she is talking about.

Swim took Abilify around four years altogether. But was on seroquel, it didnt work at all. It also depends on what you are trying to treat.

Also, Abilify is the strongest Anti-Psychotic in the area of blocking D2 Dopamine Receptors, pretty sure, but swiy might want to read up on it.
It's the weakest as far as it doesn't bind to ALL the receptors which cause drowsiness and flatness of emotions or depression...

Hope that helps.

Re: Aripiprazole ( Abilify )

SWIM calls Abilify ABILIFRY because the mental awareness vanishes after a period of time, usually a year. Also her joints and muscles ache on this medication...

It does appear to be a safer option for many. Have you ever used sulpiride?

Re: Aripiprazole ( Abilify )

No as swim has only been on these for about 3 months and they seem to be OK but thats how the other 2 were. Swim will have to remember Sulpride just in case. Thanks for the info.

Re: Aripiprazole ( Abilify )

I have been on this pill now for only a month and I have to igmit it makes a huge difference in my life b4 this pill I felt like I wanted to die almost everyday I felt that way I actually attempted suicide about 4x with-in 6 months and not to mention the horrible anxiety I felt b4 this pill, but since I started taking it no more anxiety and no more severe depression I can actually get out of bed and function pretty decently for the most prt it's just hard getting back in the groove of things but I have to say thank goodness for abilify, although one downfall I have gained 12#s in a month

Re: Abilify (Aripiprazole)

Well Swim has a horror story. One night at a friends house when he was younger and less educated, his friend said to take one of her abilify's because it would fuck him up hardcore. About thirty minutes later he started getting this overwhelming feeling of imminent death that brought A Clockwork Orange to mind, a strong feeling of suffocation. After that had past he felt extremely tired lied down and went to sleep. Things would have been okay at that point if his friend had let him stay the night there. In his anti-psycotic induced stupor he thought he was okay to drive home, as he was driving home demonic voices started coming from the classical music he was playing and it became very hard to stay awake. About three blocks from his house he makes a turn falls asleep in the middle of the turn and plows into a white picket fence and then into a tree sitting infront of a pink house. His trans axle was shattered. When the cops showed they thought swim was intoxicated so they gave him a field sobriety test, he walked in a straight line and recited his alphebet backwards, touching his nose and such. When it came to the eye and light part his eyes jiggled heavily when streched to their sides. While all of this cop mess was going on he was hearing the demonic voices coming from a bush behind the cop. The cop let him go because he had passed 2 out of 3 parts of the exam. Shortly after being told he was free to go he projectile vomited on the cop . his grandmother was called to take him home and that was the end of that night. So thats what happedned to one of swims cars.
