Hallucinations from tramadol - help

swim took 15 tramadols at around 6pm and its now 2am and hes having some visual and hearing hallucinations... he finds it weird because he usally takes 18-22 at a time... everything sounds different and its startin to scare swim... sound is slowed down real bad... as with the visuals swim keeps seeing stuff out of the corner of his eyes and seeing a weird white thing infront of him (cant explain it)... can anyone please explain why hes having these hallucinations when he normaly takes way more than 15, and has there ever been reports of hallucinations from tramadol

Any drug can cause hallucinations with high doses, maybe not because of the drug itself, but for your body's reaction to intoxication. (think about fever hallucinations).

Tramadol also messes with serotonin, same neurotrasmitter LSD and other hallucinogenics are supposed to act on and there are several reports of people hallucinating on ssri's. Audio hallucinations are common on ssri SWIM has experienced them before. Also tramadol is an opioid and opiates/opiods are also known to cause hallucinations in some people, but this is more associated with the nodding dream-like state.

It would be good to know the amount of mg SWIY took, if he was used to this dosage, only god knows what was the cause of such a reaction, but drugs don't always behave like they are supposed to. Let it be a lesson to be wise in the future.

And SWIY is surprised he is hallucinating? That is an insane dose of tramadol.
As was said, as well as being an opioid, tramadol is an SSRI. These can cause all
kinds of strange symptoms, especially in high doses.
I would advise you to seek medical attention.

swim just woke up and feels a little hung over but alright and things still sound a little strange

Although not recommended, tramadol can be taken safely in larger doses when taken in divided dosage over time. Because tramadol is an NMDA antagonist (in addition to pro mu-opioid pure agonist), it can act like ketamine type. There are many reports of dreaming and hallucination on opiates (opium smoking, morphine drip, etc). So adding an opioid effect to a slight ketamine effect could very well induce hallucinations, and synergiostically.

Why would anyone take that many of anything? That is very dangerous and definitely not advisable.

15 is ridiculous man, swim was prescribed 8-10 a day and had to go to the loony bin cause shit got spo weird

SWIM found they gave her nightmares and that was on a prescribed dosage, she doesn't think it's due to the opiate affect because SWIM is fine on all other opiates, even when mixed together. SWIM currently takes methadone, fentanyl & codeine (prescribed) and still does a little heroin, no nightmares!, she would never touch tramadol again.
