When swim was teenager some of the older junkies in the hood were sending big overweight women to doctors to get a RX for Preluden , they were pink, they then would wash off the outside layer, place four or five in a test tube, add water , heat , used like a wire to take out wax floating on the water, wrap cotton around their point and draw from test tube, remove cotton , remove air bubbles and hit it , swim had n't done it, they said it would give a huge rush and taste like ether, wired up for long long periods with out the slightest need for sleep.
That drug was the cause of many a pharmacy burglary and dr. shopping.
They must have pulled it from the market because I've never heard of them again.

Anyone here know of these and what they were made from?

Preluden is phenmetrazine, chemically related to amphetamine it is used like said above for obesity.

It is a schedule III drug and I believe it is also listed in the Psychotropic Substances Act.

Chemical make up consisting of C11H15NO .

It was designed to replace amphetamine in clinical uses such as weight loss. In clinical trials it seemed to produce less side effects than amphetamine salts. It didn't increase heart rate and produced less euphoria and nervousness that usually accompanied amphetamine. It was originally deemed safe but in the coming years this did not seem to be the case by reports of psychotic reactions relating to amphetamine. Seems as though it had an even greater risk for abuse than amphetamine and was preffered over amphetamines and methamphetamine by some recreational users.

Preluden was taken off the market due to this and was replaced by Bontril which is still in the pharm shelves today but it rarely ever gets prescribed by doctors and I believe it sits with the other schedule III drugs as well. Bontril is a weaker analog of phenmetrazine. A percentage of phendimetrazine (C12H17NO) gets metabolized into the sought after phenmetrazine which gives it it's effects, especially in higher doses.

Some seem to describe shooting phenmetrazine as being the most euphoric out of all stimulants.

yep, swim lived in OKC and knew peeps from D-FW area and they would go to Ft Worth were this ether was made. That was the best. I never seen or even heard of it since.
Swim thinks they give a life sentence in Texas to cooks, so they (cooks) are either dead, real old, or in the Texas Dept. of Corrections.

Texas is the kind of state that doesn't believe in letting inmates out early because of over crowding , they will build a new prison , or double up on executions, two a day. Please correct me if I"m wrong

I rember listing to a taped interview with John Lennon, He said that when they were in Germany playing in the bars every night , they would score preluden from the waiters, because the restaurant workers were always having to burn the candle at both ends.
He also said that the prelude aloud the Beatles to play and play , there by allow them to tighten up as a band, the rest is history
