USA - Extreme conservative now wants weed

This article comes from the NORML.com frontline and it's pretty interesting because the politician pushing for pot once boasted "never in a million years" would he want cannabis legalized. He got in a major car accident and after a few years of taking heavy painkillers he is starting to see the light, so to speak, of the potential medicinal qualities of this ancient herb.

If only President Bush and the rest of the Republican party would get into accidents that would leave them in extreme pain, eh?

This bill, if passed, would make New York the 13th state in the U.S. with a medical marijuana law. New Mexico recently became the 12th last April.

For pain relief , swim doesn't think marijuana has analgesic value. He knows from experience, marijuana doesn't relieve pain. It may however have other medical uses. Marijuana actually lowers the pain threshold, there by causing the pain to be magnified.
As far as this being about Liberals and Conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, Their will always be strays who cross party lines for either personal gain, or political gain. Conservatives wouldn't like America to look like San Francisco, where they welcome open heroin use. And Liberals think that giving cash payments each month to the addicts in San Francisco is humanitarian.
I personally like to be able to take my kid to the park, without having needles poking them on the ground.
At the same time I feel that adults smoking pot is not a problem.
Where is the line drawn and what measures are set into place to keep from going overboard with decriminalizing it?

It does relieve certain types of pain in some cases. Particularly neuropathic pain which is largely resistant to most other medications.
