Combat the effects of caffeine?

Is there any easy way to get caffeine out of your system? I have been battling the coffee-induced insomnia for quite a while (and this is when I drink a coffee really early in the morning and no caffeine products for the rest of the day).
Thanks!
Ollie

Re: Combat the effects of caffeine?

The only way to get caffeine out of your system is to not drink caffeine. If one cup early in the morning is the only caffeine intake of the day, then giving that up should be no problem. If after a week without caffeine the insomnia is still present, it may be worth your while speaking to a doctor about it.

You could try drinking a mildly sedative herbal tea such as chamomile to relax at night prior to bed, or perhaps valerian (available at your local healthfood store). Also look into relaxation techniques & breathing exercises.

Re: Combat the effects of caffeine?

Hot, soapy enemas have been suggested by some. Though some end up prefereing them to the coffee.

why does is this idea instaneously linked to the words "harm reduction" and gazelles in swim's tortuous mind ?

on topic : maybe choosing decaff instead ?
otherwise the caffeine in Yerba Mate / Ilex paraguariensis ( caffeine also called "mateine") is assimilated / metabolised in a slightly different way, and doesn't seem to cause the same insomnia issues as other forms of caffeine. it's also got a strong kick to it, but no jitters. worked for swim, who's also quite sensitive to caffeine sleep disruption, mate just doesn't cause any problems.
so switching to the bitter gourd and bombilla might be a plan if caffeine intake is that important

combat? or reduce... to reduce, maybe a few antihistamines, hydroxyzine, benadryl, etc. just to take the edge off. swim doesnt get anything out of caffeine these days

Re: Combat the effects of caffeine?

L-Theanine is nice at taking the edge off of caffiene, and counters many of the negative effects.

Re: Combat the effects of caffeine?

Insomnia in the evening after a cup of coffee in the morning sounds like the original poster is a CYP1A2 poor metabolizer. These metabolize caffeine much slower than 'normal' persons. CYP1A2 PMs are more susceptible for physical addiction to caffeine and long-term health issues (higher risk of heart attacks).

Avoiding caffeine would be the best way to go in this situation. Decaffeinated coffee may be an alternative if you are addicted to the aroma.
