snorting ritalin

alright, well SWIM has 2 5mg pills of Ritalin (white pill, M in a box on one side, 5 on the other) and is wondering if snorting it is more effective then taking it orally, or if parachuting it would be a better idea. Also, in general, would SWIM feel 10 mg?

Keep in mind that snorting lead's to faster onset and stronger experience, although swiy would need less than an average oral dose to acheive effects of parachuting it.

Monkey has also had variable success with smoking methylphenidate for better effects (a simple method can be found about half way through this thread). It isn't too likely that too much will happen with 10mg. Also keep in mind that these pills have a lot of filler in them which makes them not so great for insufflation.

SWIM likes to crush 15-20mgs of Rits and go thru the nose just for a little bump. You wont get super buzzy, but you should feel it none the less.

Keep in mind if its already crushed, it takes effect faster because your body doesnt have to metabolize it to break it down

Thanks for the links. SWIM has discovered she likes this stuff, particularly snorting it, as taking them 'normally' can sometimes be unpredictable as to effect. As in, if she doesn't remember to eat lunch and gets a little too fidgety, etc. SWIM is still looking for information on how to break it down and get rid of the filler (the info on Ritalin and friends is still a bit scattered). If SWIM finds some info, she'll link it here if someone else doesn't beat her to it.

Swim used to do the sniffing of different adhd drugs a lot. Its really not all that great. short acting adderal is the best for it, the lil methylpehnidate are okay i guess, butnot as good. DO NOT try it with concerta (time release methyphenidate) It is much more difficult to make it into a fine powder, not to mention a pain int he ass double coated pill. You might as well just chew them up real good if you wanna take pills, but you want em a lil stronger and faster than normal oral dosage. I wouldn't try and separate filler and stuff out of it unless your real good with chemistry, seeing as the finished product will be made for ingestion.

No. Codeine interferes with sleep and so will methylphenidate (ritalin). Taking the two at once leads to an uncomfortable somnolence which cannot be remedied by sleep, and worse, a kind of despondency.

Snorting ritalin is the preferred method. Be sure to avoid dopamine agonists (amps) and precursors (tyrosine, b-vitamins) and serotonergic substances (SSRI's, NyQuil, benadryl). Also, keep blood sugar up by ingesting apple sauce, apples, and/or oranges with plenty of pure water which increases the euphoria and stimulation and counteracts the crash.

Nyquil contains dextromethorphin (DXM) and benedryl contains diphenhydramine. Both bind with a high affinity to some seretonin receptors.

Methelphenedate and codeine have low affinities to serotonin receptors, but serotonin release is opiod-mediated, so codeine can certainly effect serotonin and might be why he mentions to avoid these. Although there doesn't seem to be a huge risk of interaction between codeine and serotonergic substances, it is always better to err on the safe side--especially when there are undertones of abuse--because serotonin syndrome can be fatal.

If the kid you heard about takes adderall, that has a somewhat higher affinity to serotonin. Supposing he takes adderall at a sane time and it has worn off when he takes nyquil and benedryl to sleep, I don't know if that would be too much cause for concern, but again--better to be safe than sorry.

I'm not too sure of the danger when mixing benedryl and nyquil, you weren't too clear if the kid takes them both at the same time, or if he uses one or the other to sleep. I don't see why he would use both. Supposing he is prescribed to adderall, I don't think he's doing anything illegal. In fact, both such active ingredients are used in OTC sleep-aids, but if the kid finds he needs help sleeping a majority of the time, I would advise he make his doctor aware if he hasn't already.

First off, swim has a long medical history explaining his sensitivity to serotonin toxicity. By medical he means legitimate treatment, not self-medication. But the serotonin-induced problems are now a regular occurrence and is the major obstacle in treating his perpetual depression and social anxiety.

Now, his warning was based on many experiences of mixing adderall with serotonergic substances, specifically those found in NyQuil and Benadryl (one or the other, or both) and even clonazepam (which plus adderall WAS rx for swim, obviously now it's just clonazepam), that led to some very uncomfortable side-effects. Nausea, gastro-intestinal problems, mental issues, psychosis, etc. which can last for a day or two or more. Swim strongly stresses to avoid mixing adderall with anything serotonergic, period.

That being said, swim's initial post regarded methylphenidate. Swim has never experienced serotonin toxicity mixing MPH and NyQuil but he refuses to rule out that frequent combination can lead to disastrous complications like above. For adderall, it's a proven problem. For MPH, it's just risky. Aside from that, it leads to very upset sleep, which is enough reason alone.
