A Few Questions About Psilocybin
hi great site! i have a few questions if its not too much trouble SWIM would like answering,
its reccomended that you only take them once a month why is this? in the last month SWIM have taken mushrooms 4 times (the first 3 times were good), and each time SWIM carry on in my thaughts where SWIM left and its now getting too complicated and the last time made me get stuck in cycles which led me thinking the only way to break the cycle was for SWIM too die (SWIM must stress that they didnt make SWIM want to commit suicide it was just "theory" if u can call it that but still scary!) it was horrible thinking about these cycles, SWIM is concerned about taking them again, will SWIM will start where SWIM has left off? will this happen and how long should SWIM wait before its safe to take them again. thirdly SWIM has heard a rumour that if you take them with more people it is more likely to induce a negative trip as there is too much information. Is this true? SWIM has done magic mushrooms 5 times the first three times were with 1 or 2 other people and one of the best experiances of SWIM life, the last two times SWIM did with around 7 people (they are all good friends) the first time with 7 ppl was a good experiance but the 2nd time SWIM did it resulted in most of us having a bad trip) everyone took around 2grams dry each time. SWIM have also heard a rumour that magic mushrooms deprive you of vitamin C and high vitamin c things like orange juice can replenish this and weaken the trip is this true ? Many thanks in advance if you can answer my questions. |

Re: A few questions i have!
Quote:
2. The key with mushrooms is being in a positive environment. As people are aware, mushrooms leave you extremely susceptible to emotional fluctuations so its best to not expose yourself to situations that may cause you to lose control. 3. The less people someone trips with, the less potential bad trip mates he has to deal with. Someone having a bad trip is likely to cause your trip to take an ill fated turn for the worst. As is with all life experiences, the more someone encounters it, the more ready he is the next time he faces it. The same thing, so I hear, is with mushrooms. 4. It is likely that the next time you trip, your last trip will cycle somewhere in your mind. This is probably going to happen as you are coming down, feeling slightly down, and relate the feeling to your last trip, causing yourself to feel even worse. 5. Solutions: If you start to think bad thoughts just say to yourself that you took mushrooms to have a good time and thinking about these things is pointless. I have heard that some people tell themselves that whatever is bugging them they will think through once they are sober but now they are going to focus on enjoying themselves. This advice works much better for experienced users who are more likely to be able to control their emotions. The safest route anyone can take is by TAKING A SMALL DOSE for the next few times and building up that positive momentum before taking a large dose again. |

Re: A few questions i have!
Aside from tolerance and prolonging the (sometimes) unpleasant after-effects, it is also important to use these as learning-tools. To slip into a stage of considering psychedelics as toys is to invite a full-blown experience comparable to having 10 years of intensive psychoanalysis crammed into 6 or 8 hours.
This can be overwhelming to many, if not most, people. Best advice is to take your time and study and learn between excursions. Remember - folks like Aldous Huxley only used psychedelics twice in his lifetime. And few would argue that he was about as connected to cosmic-conscienceness as one is likely to find. |

Re: A Few Questions About Psilocybin
Monthly trips rather than weekly or daily are good for self-reflection and emotional stability for many people. Taking mushrooms too regularly could also be harsh on SWIY's digestion, and possibly damaging to the liver or kidneys. I generally consider monthly waits wise advice, but ultimately each individual finds a different way to use mushrooms as a tool for growth... SWIM can't tell SWIY how much is the right amount.
If SWIY got stuck in an intense thought loop where he obsessed over life and death issues, he would probably be wise to take a considerable break from mushrooms after that, and just ponder the meaning of the ego death experience before trying to go further. Taking mushrooms with large amounts of people would be uncomfortable for SWIM, because SWIM likes his peace and quiet. For a person who is extremely social and loves people, though, the situation could be different. Each individual has to ask themselves what a positive set and setting would be, and what kind of surroundings would be most likely to produce good results. For most people having a lot of people around would be a problem, for some it might not. SWIM has taken drinks with vitamin C in them while tripping and it did not "weaken the trip"... I am not sure how much mushrooms depletes your vitamin C; I would recommend in general staying well-hydrated, and well-supplied with nutrition in general, if there's a vitamin SWIY is short on while tripping, SWIY should probably stock up on it, to keep the body strong for getting through the trip. But I am not an expert in this area, and can't really say what the precise effects of vitamin C in this situation are. |

Re: A Few Questions About Psilocybin
I've also heard that too much mushrooms will effect your memory, thought it was on erowid, BUT I've also heard that regulare shroom trips reduce your ego (thought it was Mckenna)
If I have to give you one tip, wich is my personal key to tripping in total bliss, is acceptance. You want to accept everything that the shroom offers you. If you try to control it or fight against it, it will not like it. now don't think that the only thing you can think about on shrooms is 'accept it, accept it, accept it' this won't work. That is just an other kind of controling. Just let it come over you, feel the glow of the shroom, see how it is trying to tell you things, feel how it balances you, think about things like the earth, the galaxy, the universe. How everything works and how eveything connects to each other. That kind of things always work for me BUT, these are just my own experience, I can't take a look in your mind and I don't know you. So don't take my advice as an sort of manual but more as a guide line Hope that someone will have wonderfull excperiences |

Re: A Few Questions About Psilocybin
Big-Lester, what you said about acceptance is interesting. SWIM employs the same rule when he trips. Sounds much like some chapters of the version of the Tibbetan Book of the Dead edited by Tim Leary, SWIM believes.
