Drug Reform
Does SWIY have an honest and serious solution to the whole War on Drugs deal? Should drugs be legalized? Or stricter punishment?
SWIM thinks we should make drugs legal(SWIM refers to drugs that aren't the following: PCP, Crack, Meth, Heroin, Cocaine), but every citizen must get a license/ID at age 18(or older) and drugs are sold in special stores. Should you get into trouble with drugs, like buying from random dealer or trying to buy without your ID will result in the removal of your license and therefore you'd have to go to street dealers, which should remain illegal. Strictly government watched and controlled. A drug is creating so much problems, they just pull it back or restrict it. And limits are easy to control. Just create a network that limits the amount you purchase by telling the person selling it whether or not you are allowed. It's actually not that hard. And they can still use the funds, and even take some of the $$$ and fund drug-awareness/anti-drug campaigns and ads. Win win in a way. Though that means a serious potential for a drug riddled society. Possibility though. |

Re: Drug Reform
I love it when people are all for legalizing their drugs (Pot, whatever), but when it comes to drugs they don't like it's a no-go. Now if they're making the argument that it's more realistic to get certain drugs legalized as opposed to others I'm with them every step of the way, but if they're saying some drugs shouldn't be legal even if it were possible to make them all legal I get a bit miffed. As far as I know there is no drug that turns everyone who uses it into a crazed murderer. So instead of making some drugs that have a negative image and perhaps can cause problems how about we make people take responsibility for what they do, and when they kill someone or sexually abuse a goat THEN and ONLY THEN the government steps in.
You have a right to control what you put, or don't put, into your own body. Period. |

Re: Drug Reform
I was trying to point out that drugs should be legalized, with the exception of the riskiest, most dangerous and detrimental to one's health drugs. Not just "pot" but most anything else. It seems that only a small handful of drugs cause problems(not saying that people haven't killed or done something wrong under the influence of X or weed) but that most drug related incidents are crack, pcp, heroin, coke, or meth related. I mean, we've all seen the images of meth addicts looking like shit. Why legalize that? Or crackheads. Tired, sick, skinny, dirty. Not good. Heroin/coke addicts: very skinny, malnutritioned if you will. LSD? No serious physical (maybe mental if you are weak of mind[?]) side effects. Marijuana? Again, nope. None more serious than tobacco anyway...

Re: Drug Reform
Note: The following may seem like a personal attack and I'd like to make sure you know it's not. I just get a bit ranty on this subject.
Why legalize that? One, because it's your right as a person to do whatever the hell you want to. It's risky? OH NO! I guess rock climbing and sky diving had best go as well. It's dangerous(I'm assuming since you already said risky this is covering its danger to other people)? Yeah lets make sure no one can use those drugs because a SMALL PERCENTAGE of users have caused problems WHILE THE DRUGS WERE ILLEGAL. It's detrimental to my health? Well damn. I guess I can't go to McDonalds anymore and then sit on my ass all day. Oh, and that tanning appt. I had? Guess I'll have to skip it. Wouldn't want to do anything that's not healthy. Do you really want the government as your babysitter? Personally, I think I can make decisions of my own. Again, not angry at you or anything of the sort just a little passionate on this subject and using this as a style of argument. |

Re: Drug Reform
No I understand. In reference to the government "babysitting", I was making note of the fact that this is a thread on the reform of drug laws. It has to be acceptable to both sides, the government and the users. That's why I mentioned the government regulation. So they'd be able to keep drug problems/overdoses under some form of control (granted it may not really help). Not that they would "babysit", although it is basically the same idea.

Re: Drug Reform
I understand that too. The reality of it is getting anything legal would be a miracle and I'm all for it.
