The "funnest" nootropic?
Sooooooo, is there a smart or combo of smarts that could be considered the funnest nootropic? Not something that necessarily gets swiy 'high' , but more relaxed, cool, enthusiastic, comfortable, not depressed and not anxious. Swim isn't as interested in improving memory as swim is in dealing with stress and depression, without having to get addicted to zoloft or some other drug that swim would have to see a doctor for. (swim has no healthcare)

Re: The "funnest" nootropic?
Ummm.... Not sure what you mean by 'fun' nootropics.
What is your idea of a nootropic? Such as, could you tell me what your definition of a nootropic is and give some examples? I think we are on differing wavelengths here. I also think you may be looking for the wrong substances. |

Re: The "funnest" nootropic?
There is no (as yet) single "smart drug" which improves vigilance, cognition, agitlity etc without having potential side effects and all have Pro & cons.
The usual suspects deprenyl, modafinil, sam-e, ginseng, adrafinil, etc etc all can show very beneficial effects however they are all still drugs that can have serious negative side effects if not used correctly (or just through bad luck because of incompatible genetic metabolism for example). Deprenyl is a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (and although revesible and selective) can still have serious interactions with sympathomimetics (OTC cold remedies etc). Someone considering taking nootropics must also consider their age. If they are old then the pro's may balance out any negatives simply for the acute improvement. Someone young taking deprenyl for example might be messing with their dopamine pathways in a way which could result in problems 20 or 40 years down the line(the safety data is more often than not extrapolated past the point of reliable data points). Many people also take multiple nootropics in combination which may be justified but one needs to at least understand the risks of the drugs and especially in combination. Even if Drug XYZ is proven to increase life expectancy - taking it with drug ZZZ might reverse this effect completely. Even simple problems like the added stress of taking so many supplements can have on the liver, kidneys may take its toll eventually. So to summarise in SWIMS opinion NO their is no definitive answer to the question asked above^ and if your going to use nootropics read as much about them beforehand as possible - understand how they work, go straight to the source and understand the evidence suggesting any benefit. Its certainly quite possible to have FAR more side effects from a nootropic stack than from zoloft(sertraline) alone it just depends on the person involved on which drugs are being ingested. At the end of the day everyone wants a pill to cue them of all their problems - the reality is its not that simple. |

You would most likely like theanine. It chills you out and works on dopamine, its not a "high" really but it feels really pleasurable. It also gives you a sort of zen alertness.

Re: The "funnest" nootropic?
my favorite is modafinil. it doesnt give you a high or makes you feel "good" but it seems to improve cognitive thinking and allows you to focus more.

Re: The "funnest" nootropic?
Are you kidding? It feels like an amphetamine high when combined with caffeine. It doesn't seem to have any side effects though, really. At least not more than aspirin.

Re: The "funnest" nootropic?
From what I've read and what a lot of people consider fun concerning psychoactive substances I guess Phenylpiracetam (Carphedon, Phenotropil) might be something you'd like to try. It has been described as an speed-like high without nasty side effects. I don't know a lot about its effects and its legal status. So it would be a good idea to do some more research beforhand.

Re: The "funnest" nootropic?
Ehh, someone I know tried out phenylpiracetum, not for fun per-se, but for cognitive enhancement, and this individual found that it was similar to amphetamines. It should be noted that this individual got some nasty side effects from it that he had expierienced with amphetamines:
Emotional upset: anger and obsession A tired yet speedy feeling, etc... This individual didn't get any cognitive enhancement, as it's hard to focus on the task at hand when one is obsessing about the woman who fucked him over last week. It should be noted though that this is one individuals expierience. However, if one is lookig for an amphetamine expierience, but cleaner and supposedley safer, then this individual I know recomends that the individual who the poster was posting on behalf of try out phenylpiracetam, but that he does so quickly, as the last stateside producer has produced his final batch and is planning on discontinuing it due to cost. |

Re: The "funnest" nootropic?
Swim has heard that 2000mg piracetam and 3000mg phenylethylamine in a drink drunk over an hour period is quite the funnest nootropic...
