No it is not true,swim can attest to this.Tolerance and addiction is not going to develop from using a drug one time.The problem with swim was he liked it so much the first time he had to do it again and again and again.

That's an old myth. Many people are not all that impressed with it the first time they try it. Heroin is much less addictive than is generally thought. You have to work at getting addicted-- in most situations.

Swim wasn't that impressed his very first time but that is because he only insuffulated a tiny bit.Now his second time when he insuffulated a good deal more he loved it,and his third time when he iv'd it he REALLY loved it.That first time hook myth is just ridiculous propaganda from the fifties.

SWIM fell in love with heroin the first time SWIM smoked some and didn't stop for a year.... for some it truly gets the hooks in the first time tried. SWIM smoked a lot so it on that first occasion and the high was quite impressive.
Keep in mind that SWIM was not physically addicted after that first time (that took a few weeks of daily use), but there is nothing SWIM has tried which equates to smoked or IV heroin at the proper dose, and for those with a propensity to love that feeling (and some hate it) it can be very hard to stop or get one's mind off of it. SWIM did not mean to feed into any misconceived notions spread by anti-drug propagandists. There is a reason that heroin is so popular and so many have habits, though...

i probly would have said "get addicted the 1st time they iv"
no its not a book ive been reading or anything like that
just whenever you learn about drugs they only tell you the bad stuff
plus people lie and tell you the wrong things
and i want to learn everything
i have tons of questions about all kinds of stuff if anyone wants to answer them for me

Regardless. Mr. Trips can spend a lot of time here and find out a lot that he won't find out anywhere else. Also, I cannot restrain myself from suggesting that he go to the Vaults of Erowid (www.erowid.org) and spend some months reading all he can about any drug he may be interested in. The information in the psychoactives vaults is well organized if somewhat incomplete, and is a great starting point for finding out about schtuff. Sooner or later I imagine D-F will have a structure to rival Erowid's, but right now it just doesn't (although it's far and away the best forum out there).

Heroin does get you hooked pretty fast though SWIM thinks... Its not that SWIY actually is addicted the first time they try it, but SWIY is intrigued the first time they try it, and wants to try it again, usually.

I believe that once upon a time someone with a legit concern for another said something like, "be careful, you CAN become addicted to heroin the first time you try it." No doubt someone twisted the words around from CAN to WILL and a perfectly truthful cautionary statement was converted into an untrue statement.

Also, if SWIM's parents were to hear someone say, "it is possible to become addicted to heroin with a single use.", what SWIM's parents would actually hear would be something like, "If you try heroin, you will become a hopelessly addicted, miserable, and lose complete control over your actions which would then include lying, stealing, plundering, murdering, and whoring yourself out for heroin."

LOL SWIM has heard her family so many times, "Oh it wasn't SWIM that stole our money and hawked our treasures, it was those drugs!" "SWIM is innocent!"...

Personally SWIM thinks that while not impossible, it would be uncommon for someone to become addicted from a single use... SWIM might even go so far as to say borderline rare.

swim was hooked the first time,but thankfully he has some self control and didint acquire an adiction.there is a difference in between hooked and addicted.

SWIM thinks it's just as silly to say you can't get addicted to heroin the first time you do it as it is to say you definately will. People are different, experiences are different, and snorting heroin is a whole other animal than shooting it.

You have to be clear what you mean by "addiction" here guys. SWIY won't end up with sweats, stomach cramps, diarrhoea and psychologically ruinous insomnia after trying heroin once. But that's what awaits SWIY if they try to knock a several year long habit on the head.

For most it probably takes a few weeks of prolonged use for your body to become physically dependent on opiates to function properly. But psychological addiction (as in thinking about and wanting it constantly) is a bit harder to define.

If we are talking about psychological addiction in the sense a person loves it and wants more then swim truly was hooked on heroin the first time he tried it.However true addiction in the physical and psychological sense takes much longer to develop.

SWIM, like many others, got very sick the first time she did heroin, and the second, third, fourth and fifth. Because of this the experiences for the most part were unpleasant. At the time SWIM was using a lot of ecstasy which was by far her drug of choice.

Then SWIM moved to another country for 6 months where she was unable to score either drug. During this time SWIM had overwhelming cravings for heroin on a number of occasions, but she could not figure out why when her memories of using heroin were negative.

SWIM moved back to the country where she had been using ecstasy and heroin and the day after she arrived back she used heroin, and the next day, and the next (was still snorting it at this stage.) within a month she was hooked and she finally managed to quit 2 years later by moving back to the 2nd country.

SWIM wasn't addicted from the first time, but heroin definately had a pull that no other drug has rivalled.

Swim is living proof that first time use doesn’t result in instant addiction. In fact Swim is living proof that heroin can be used entirely re-creationaly. Swim was using around £80 / £100 a week from first time use and then, due to boredom, Swim began spending all day on his arse using £40’s worth a day for a month before stopping, cold turkey.
(Psychologically) Swim stopped easily…Swim just stopped buying heroin and Swim hasn’t touched heroin in three months now. Swim is not addicted and was never psychologically addicted, though Swim agrees heroin has a pull like no other.
