Question about methadone potentation?

A friend of swims told him that tums antacid would potentate methadone and other opiates.Is there any truth to this?If so would swim need to injest the tums sometime before taking methadone and it would really potentate it alot for someone with a high tolerance?

My friend mentioned that the grapefruit juice thing was attempted again the other day - 1 day with 8oz of juice, another day with 4oz of juice (the taste, apparently, is disgusting) on an empty stomach - approx an hour or so before taking a dose of methadone and reported increased effects, though how increased wasn't made clear to me.

Interestingly, there was mention of "feeling weird" after some time had passed *after* drinking the juice but *before* the next dose (this person takes methadone multiple times a day in smaller doses instead of all at once in the morning). Whether this was placebo (uncertain, since my friend apparently forgot that the juice had been consumed on one of the days) or somehow a "kicking in" of the previous dose(s) is unknown.

My friend is a tolerant user, as it's been prescribed daily for at least 5 years, and I think it's been even more than that.

It never hurts to try! The same friend has had some luck consuming large-ish amounts of immodium tablets (in the 6mg-12mg range) an hour or so before a dose. *shrug*
