refill cost without insurance?
SWIM is just wondering how much his adderall prescription will cost without insurance. his insurance is gone till he is a student again in september. his alprazolam rx is not so bad at $40 usd a month or 2 depending on how long swim can make it last (he does not abuse his medications, they help him fine the way he is)
i fully understand the rule about asking about prices but i could not determine if this falls within the category. SWims psych would give him 10mg 60 monthly usually or 120 when swim is unable to see him for long periods of time. if this question does fall into the rules i apologize and it should be locked or poofed outta here. |

Re: refill cost without insurance?
It depends on several factors. What type you get (xr, etc), whether you go generic, what pharmacy you go to (I've heard of up to $100 differences in price found by people who spend some time comparing local pharmacy prices), and that sort of thing. You may want to do a google search, there's quite a bit of info and even some forums where people talk about their experiences finding good prices for meds. Also ask pharmacies if they have any special deals for people without insurance. Monkey is also in the waiting-for-next-semester insurance limbo
Good luck.

Re: refill cost without insurance?
SWIM were 10mg generics and are 99% of the time from a rite aid pharmacy. With insurance i believe it was $10 usd or maybve $20 at the most. i have more faith in $10 usd though

Re: refill cost without insurance?
Since swim was paying a $10 copay I assume that his insurance plan had a flat rate for meds. That makes it impossible to tell what swim was paying, whereas it could easily be calculated if it was a percentage based coverage. SWIY should get ahold of his pharmacy and ask how much it is without insurance, if they offer any deals for people without insurance or have any recommendations, and call a few other pharmacies to compare. Swiy could also consider looking into price of 20mg as it compares to two refills of 10mg, if it's cheaper swiy could cut the pills in half.

Re: refill cost without insurance?
thats what swim does with his alprazolam Rx he gets 2mg and is advised to take 2 a day and swim usually takes 1mg every 4-6hrs. he told his psych that he would rather just split the bars then just get the blue footballs.
SWIM will give his pharmacy a call tomorrow and see what is said, thanks a lot |

Re: refill cost without insurance?
SWIM dreamt he went to a doctor and got a bottle of adderall, then two days later he told the doctor the housecleaner accidently threw it away. Swim dreamt that his doctor wrote him a second prescription being the a liberal type. Swim then went ot the pharmacy and dreamt that he spent $137 because insurance wouldn't cover another prescription so soon

Good grief swiy's state must be lax on the laws, in swim's part of the us, you would have to get a police report to get a fill that soon. At any rate swim would have to pay $149 at a well known drugstore for the 30XRs without insurance. Swim pays $20 copay. Now if swim were to try to get the meds sooner than 30 days, yes same deal swim would pay full price. |

Re: refill cost without insurance?
Quote:
For example, SWIM takes Dexedrine for his ADHD, and SWIM has found that Kmart pharmacy would charge him $190 for 400 of the 5mg Dexedrine immediate release tablets, however CVS pharmacy quoted SWIM a price of $490 for the exact same prescription, of the same drug from the same manufacturer. SWIM has found that pharmacies like CVS, Right Aid, Walgreens, and actually any large chain drug stores will more often than not charge rediculously large amounts for the exact same product that pharmacies like Kroger, Walmart, and Kmart sell for a fraction of the cost. SWIM encourages anyone who is reading this (in the USA) to call around the town that they live in, and see how bad this price gouging actually is in their local area. SWIM has been aware of this for many years now, and yet SWIM still feels strongly that this is something that is completely unethical, and immoral, and actually criminal (in SWIM's opinion) for these big chain drug stores to perpetrate on their customers. SWIM originally thought that this price gouging was only occuring with the ADHD stimulants that SWIM was prescribed. Then a few winters ago SWIM caught something on campus that was going around and was prescribed an antibiotic. It was the antibiotioc Amoxil, which has many generics that all share the generic chemical name amoxicillin. Anyhoot, to make a long story short. SWIM decided to call around to the local pharmacies in his area to get some price quotes on a generic amoxicillin product made by a single generic drug company that it turned out that every pharmacy in town actually carried. Well, SWIM was saddended to hear the price quotes he was given. Here is how they compared: Kroger pharmacy..........$18.00 US Kmart pharmacy...........$18.00 US Walmart pharmacy........$18.00 US Right Aid.....................$24.00 US Walgreens...................$33.00 US CVS...........................$48.00 US Keep in mind that these prices reflect the same generic drug, made by the same generic drug manufacturer (I confirmed this with the pharmacies at the time). For people like SWIM who do not have insurance, it really does pay to call around before having a prescription filled. Food for thought.

Re: refill cost without insurance?
SWIM got his insurance back and now gets 120 10mgs a month unbelievably cheap.
SWIM is back on his medication combination (hey it rhymes lol) and he feels great ![]() and to shadow be strong, you should go through with it and be proud you did. SWIM hates to see people continue feeding a demon they know they shouldnt instead of just playing with the demon here and there. |
