I.V. tie off question

Couldn't find this with a search. When an I.V. user ties off then injects & registers/hits thw vein, how important is it to remove the tie before injecting?

And why exactly is a user suosed to remove it?

SWIM loses the vein often when attempting this and has pretty much just been taking it off after injection.

Thanks-

Re: I.V. tie off question

swia would take or loosen it slightly when she knows she has found a vein and registered before the plunge. So depends on what your shooting in some ways and the amount of times.

Re: I.V. tie off question

Does SWIY *need* to tie off? I've heard that it's better if you don't tie off - then you can avoid the issue of taking it off.

Apparently, it can cause major bruising and, um, I can't recall what - if anything - else can happen.

Some find they need to tie off; it becomes part of the experience. My friend who mainlines never uses a tourniquet, finding it unnecessary for my friend's personal needs - even when mainlining cocaine. My friend must have good veins, or a good memory of where said-veins are! LOL

Re: I.V. tie off question

keeping "tied off" restricts the blood flow in veins back to the body so therefore blood is more likely to leak out of the puncture and also cause the hit/injected material to all be felt at one time. SWIF has experienced this with morphine in hospital when doctors have forgotten. It's also worth noting a keeping the tie on will cause considerably more tissue damage due to more leakage of blood. From what SWIF understands it isnt of any great danger but as far as methods go it's better to release the tie.

Re: I.V. tie off question

When SWIM ties off he never unties before injecting because he is scared of screwing up and having the needle fall out of place.

In practice it doesn't matter much, but perhpas the drug might get into the bloodstream quicker if the tourniquet was untied first.
