[top]California City Council Bans Medical Marijuana, Calls it a "Public Nuisance"

Citizens in states which have passed medical marijuana laws have grown tired of the marijuana-related crime, noise and abuse which medial marijuana dispensaries bring to neighborhoods. Since California passed its medical marijuana law, more than 90 cities and counties in the state have had to pass moratoriums or bans on the distribution of marijuana in their communities. As a result of these abuses, only 24 out of California’s 58 counties now issue marijuana ID cards.
La Quinta, California is the latest community to ban medical marijuana dispensaries. Here's what one La Quinta Councilman had to say:
“Federal law supercedes state law, period,” Councilman Stanley Sniff said. “There’s just no conflict. … It is illegal, plain and simple.” City Attorney Kathy Jenson added that state law doesn’t require cities to have the dispensaries." [Desert Sun]
