LSD, antidepressant withdrawal

A person who has been diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder, and depression, who has been on Paxil(a SSRI)for 1 year, and after that,Effexor (a MAO inhibitor) for another year, and who has recently stopped taking the Effexor wants to try LSD.

Though he doesnt feel 'all there' after coming off the medication, he is still interested in taking LSD. Is this a wise idea for this person, especially ifhe may besucceptibleto depression in the future? if thewithdrawal symptomssubside after 6 weeks, as the persons psychiatrist told him, and perhaps his mood starts to look up. Would there still be a risk of a bad trip, or perhaps something worse happening to this person? By the way, this person has only smoked strong hash, grass, done valium and speed in terms of his drug history.

Just a theoretical question to ponder

thanks

the person may want to wait two weeks after taking they have stopped taking effexor before they do any lsd. antidepressants can mess around with hallucinogens (check it out on erowid). but a risk of a bad trip is not something to worry about, just make sure that everything involved with the drug is on a positive note. the person should just make sure they are feeling good.

Re: LSD, antidepressant withdrawal

Effexor (Venlafaxine) is an SNRI (serotonin-norepinephrine re-uptake inhibitor) NOT an MAOI (Mono amine oxidase inhibitor), quite a bit of a difference concerning the subject of this forum! The snri may inhibit the lsd experience or just alter its quality whilst an MAOI would make the LSD much more potent as well as probably having a huge list of all your favourite foods to avoid!

Concerning taking larger doses of LSD (for a "trip") 2 - 6 weeks after discontinuing snri meds, one of the most important things for acid virgins to remember is Set and Setting (plus probably having a trusted sitter). This is more than likely all swiy should be worrying about (or not worrying about).
