Is sleep a carrier for the most natural psychedelic experience? (DMT)

There's a theory that the pineal gland in the brain secretes naturally produced DMT that is a key factor to dreams. If sleep weren't naturally induced, would it not be considered a drug?

- It provides true auditory and visual hallucinations.

- It depresses the CNS.

- It causes serious withdrawal symptoms.

- It alters the user's state of awareness and consciousness

-There's the possibility of dependence, although tolerance builds up rapidly (within a few hours).

-Can be a euphroic/aphrodisiac as well as a catalyst for a traumatic experience.

I think dreams are the most personal psychedelic trip one could have, a majority of the time, dream dictionaries tell me what I've known all the time, but are getting confirmed by my dreams.

Does DMT play that large a role in REM sleep?

Re: Is sleep a carrier for the most natural psychedelic experience?

ok im no expert on the matter but i think the pineal gland releases nn-DMT during REM sleep... so if thats true then i guess the answer would be yes it must play a role!

edit: ok researched this online and it seems that it may only be theorized that the pineal gland produces DMT, as not much is known about its function (the gland that is not dmt obvoiusly). Does anyone have any information on this? it seems to be a very interesting gland! it is theorized also that dmt is released in the moments before death and is attributed with the tunnel of light vision that some people experiance!

Yeah, check out my "Could this be the nature of the afterlife" thread about DMT and NDEs.

Swim heard something similar once but isnt sure how true it is. Apparently in some reptile's they actually have a retina or what used to be an eye lid over their pineal glands......make's you wonder.
