Thumbs up SNUS Basics. Difference from American Smokeless Tobacco. etc.

What is SNUS?

Snus is the name for (mainly) Scandinavian smokeless tobacco. Although it is mainly produced in Sweden and Norway, its use is becoming more prevalent in all of the Scandinavian countries and spreading. It comes in tins similar to that of American Dip, that typically comes in portioned pouches. Portioned Snus usually comes in 24g. There is also "loos" Snus which comes loose like American Dip in 50g containers. U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company is also experimenting with their own versions of Snus. Camel recently test campaigned their own American version of Snus, limited to retailers in Portland, OR. and Austin, TX. "Taboka", a Snus like product by Phillip Morris is also being test campaigned in Indianapolis, IN. Camel Snus, Tobaka can be found through online retailers. Swedish Snus is available through online retailers as "collectible tins" in SWIM believes this is because it has not been approved by American regulations on Tobacco, /import/export issues.

Snus is healthier???
The claims behind Snus use being a healthier means of nicotine absorption compared to American Dip tobacco lies in the curing process. American smokeless tobacco is fire-cured, which produces significant carcinogenic TSNAs (Tobacco Specific Nitros-Amines) to form as opposed to Swedish Snus which is steam-cured.

So besides the risks that lie with Nicotine itself, less TSNAs means lower risk for unwanted carcinogenic effects. There is no evidence suggesting that Snus contains zilch TSNAs however, only much less.

Also, Snus does not go through any fermentation process like American smokeless tobaccos.

Refridgeration of Snus is also noted to reduce the formation of the TSNAs, which may have already formed in the American style fermentation process of.

The World Health Organization's study on oral cancer in Snus users was inconclusive, but increased risk of oral cancer from American smokeless tobacco retained the claim for "risk of oral cancer" as conclusive.

Also it should be noted that portioned Snus users do not have to spit while using it which could make it far more preferable than accidentally ingesting tobacco itself as many new users do, leading to nausea and vomitting.

SWIM imagines that Snus will be available worldwide within a few years, as it has sold over 300 million units/year in the scandinavian countries alone.

Well fellow dippers.... is this a new better alternative?
and hey, theyve got much more variety of flavors too.

Thoughts, contributions, and corrections are much appreciated.

hope this helps
