Re: marijuana+anti-depressant=?

SWIM's not sure about MAOIs, but he has tried smoking marijuana while on SSRIs, this resulted in SWIM's anti-depressent not functioning and making SWIM a bit emotionally unstable. If SWIY truly needs the anti-depressent, SWIM wouldn't recommend smoking pot while taking it.

Re: marijuana+anti-depressant=?

In SWIM's personal experience...

SWIM experienced panic and anxiety attacks, tachycardia, a feeling of "impending doom" -- such things SWIM thought as, "my heart's beating too fast, i'm having a heart attack," "i'm going to die," etc. After the initial panic, SWIM's high increased and was able to calm themselves during the next onset of panic attacks.

IMO, SWIM was just having a paranoid reaction, although i can't really explain.

Yeah.. Swim was suscripted citalopram then efexor And felt the same thing.. some anxiety will probably build up. If I am guessing right you never feel paranoia when high?
But in either case.. I think you should Either quit smoking or quit the pills.

cheers

Re: marijuana+anti-depressant=?

Sorry for the double post, but a fact you may need to know --

The SWIM in the story does not take antidepressants regularly, and has no emotional instability, which may have been another reason for the reactions.

Re: marijuana+anti-depressant=?

SWIM only tried the pills + anti-depressants once, and that was the reaction. Ever since, they've never mixed those two. :P

SWIM's only experienced paranoia while high three or four times.

Re: marijuana+anti-depressant=?

it totally depends on the anti-dep. almost every one ive been on (9+) has either prevented me from getting stoned or made me feel bad when i do.

when id smoke on wellbutrin id get extremely angry and short-tempered, that was the worst.

feedback

appreciate the interest.
I did end up useing marijuana whilst on 50mg parnate dosage and had no problems at all.
Of course the amount you take of either drug are to be taken into consideration, and it can depend on the individual as well.
I wouldn't be so quick to point the finger at parnate for any little side-effects though.

I don't see any problem but you make your own decision

Re: marijuana+anti-depressant=?

swim takes citalopram 40mg a day and is smoking a bowl right now. swim notices an effect because swim is taking an SSRI, but it isn't affecting the buzz at all.

Re: marijuana+anti-depressant=?

Weed effects Efexor, both in liver and brain swim is very certain on it.. erowid has alot of useful information on Efexor Venlafaxine at

http://www.erowid.org/pharms/venlafa..._effects.shtml
Both ssri/ssnri and thc all goes into the brain.
I bet they even collide eachother in the liver.. maybe sometimes even cancel them out.
All drugs effects efexor in one way or another, because the doctor rarely prescribes Efexor to patiens that are drugabusers.

Something that can accur is very rapid-heartbeat.
Often confused with Anxiety attack, but it's the antidepressant that is forcing the heart to beat more rapidly.. the same time weed does it..

It seems like a bad combo, but i wont deny that there are some people experience hardly no problems at all. But The withdrawal of efexor can be shoking.

Hope some of this info helps

cheers

Re: marijuana+anti-depressant=?

Swim wants to take some cannabis and give it to its parents...to chill out a while.. Swim has been using cannabis occassionaly and noticed good efects.. What others think? Is it clever choice or Swim should take into consideration other substances? If yes, which anybody thinks would be preferable way of serving them? May instead of chilling to come out fight? Swim would be grateful of any suggestion one may give..
