Dose - How Much & How Often? Cocaine and Crack Frequency & Quantity of Use

Please comment on the following hypothetical progression from casual powder to crack (assuming availability of product and funds):

Year 1: Powder 5-7 times per year
Year 2: Powder 2-3 times per month
Year 3: Powder 1-2 times per week
Year 4: Powder 3-5 times per week
Year 5:

Month 1: Crack 1-2 times per month

Month 2: Crack 1-2 times per week

Month 3: Crack nearly every day

I'm not suggesting that powder is "controllable", but this rock seems like a different beast entirely. Does this seem to ring true?

Powder can be controllable, though if you have a progression with increasing doses like that then its not likely to be.

Rock is a different beast entirely, which is why I don't think it really fits into the progression that way. Think of it as an entirely different drug rather than an upgrade from coke when the user gets bored with that particular buzz.

Many people just go straight to crack without using coke while others start using coke and simply use more and more without going to crack. (they may start injecting coke instead).

Both are heavily addictive substances with high abuse potential though.

...but notice the increasing doses are spread over 4+ years, where the crack progression is spread over just a few months or less. Is this typical? I've heard of people maintaining a "casual" powder habit for much longer than 4 years, but it seems that the general perception is that crack is much more difficult as something that can be used casually when availability and money are not the issue. Is this fair or am I still missing it?

(I realize it isn't necessarily black and white and it is different for everyone, but generally speaking I wonder if the progression patterns don't exist.)

I get your point about thinking of them as different drugs and that is good insight as it isn't a concept I'd previously considered. Thanks.

I meant that any long term drug use where the dosage increases steadily over time is not a good thing. Even if it is spread out over time, escalating use will eventually screw you, even if you feel under control.

And yes, my friend swim feels that it is much more difficult to control as the high is so insane the craving is really great right off the bat.

SWIM got ahold of some powder recently that smelled like a bathroom deodorizer (the blue type) it was excellent material but SWIM was wondering why it would have that odor?

You know swim just picked some rock up tonight and it doesn't have an ammonia-like smell, it kinda smells like that too! And she was wondering the same thing- swim tasted it and it tasted like perfume; from the same guy, and it was nice.. just she never tasted some rock that tasted of perfume before and had this kind of smell... hm..

My buddy SWIM usually gets at least 1/2g or a whole gram and can do it in a night, of course. But, if he gets 3.5g he'll do it all in a night and it takes him longer, but still it gets done in one night. I guess SWIM just needs to learn to pace himself more but hell if you have 3.5 grams it's hard not to do a shit load.

Swim is the same more or less. The least swim likes to do is a teener, but the more swim gets the more swim consumes. The most swim ever did was about a quarter throughout a weekend starting on a Friday night and finishing up on a Sunday evening.

Swim has a hard time pacing swimself.

all these people swiy knows really only buy a half gram at a time? swim doesnt even know people that sell that amount, it would be like buying a bowl to smoke instead of a whole sackbut thats just swims opinion.

He is curious to know how often swiy uses cocaine? And is it thought about when not consumed by it. Maybe swiy is a dependant users who can but merely control it to some extent.. and if so how long has it been a constant in ones life... and even if it just a social / occasional thing when did it first kiss ones nasal passageways? was it the peer pressures of society or just curiosity?

SWIM uses cocaine about 3 times a week. SWIM tries to space it out during the week, SWIM does it like Friday and Saturday then wait till like the middle of the week to do it again. Trying to space it out. SWIM tried it because it was the new thing and it stuck on to SWIM.

swim has been doin it regular 2-4 times a week for the past year. Her nose, health, finances, family, friends and love life are all about to fall apart at her feet! she needs to sort it out extremely quickly.

When SWIM lived at home and attended university, it was a 2-3 times weekly thing. They'd indulge at least once on the weekends, but typically used during the week.. particularly thursday nights.

sadly, it has been almost a year since SWIM had a party nite... and now that SWIM lives in Berlin, it has become more difficult to party again.

word on the street is that SWIM first tried it through a friend in high school, and did it because she was/is a huuge irvine welsh fan

SWIM tried it out of curiosity three years ago, but swim only does it in phases (a few months going strong, a month or so break) so swim hasnt been doing it heavily for three straight years really

SWIM is trying to knock it on the head, but up until 3 weeks ago swim would binge once a week, although he would think about it in between and occasionally would grab an extra couple of grams in the week

SWIM did it everyday but only a line. A line would wake him up and put him in a good mood for the rest of the entire day. After the new year swim is taking a break. Swim hasn't had any problems other than a dry nose that's rotting. No withdrawl or addictive symptoms either.

SWIM had a term off school, got bored and started doing it regularly.. Money was no object, just hard to find in the area.. When she had to start classes again, settled down a bit. She had a rocky couple of months, quitting lasted about 3 or 4 days, record was 8. Had a rule only on thurs, fri and sat so didn't interfere with life...

A few weeks ago SWIM's guidelines fell apart, she has done it daily for almost a month now, easily goes through an 8-ball in a day. She has never been able to control her use, with the subsequent tolerance and availabilty she has lost 25 pounds, dropped out of school, ruined her engagement, quit two jobs and now her daily activity is literally "doing coke." she hasn't left the house in days.

wow.. very sorry to hear of the downward spiral that swiy is caught up in right now. Does swiy have a gameplan in mind or anything? Swim has been doing pretty much daily for the past 6 months but an 8-ball still lasts him the same amount of time as it did when he first started using...about 2-3 weeks. Couple lines in mid-afternoon or evening to get his brain up and at 'em and a some nice euphoria, then he always has his opiates to bypass the stimucrash. He has not binged in quite some time due to the fact that he already has nose troubles from birth, and finally realized that more and more and more.... is just a friggin big waste of money.

Oh and btw.. has swiy ever tried breathe right nasal strips? swim swears by them and it's a 20$ / month habit. They pull your nasal passages open to allow more air (and cola) in.

SWIM has "partied" a bit every day for almost a week straight, getting about 5 hours of sleep upon average every night and going to work all day, then coming home and doing maybe the equivalent of 4-5 lines each night. Sleeping with the help of benzos, rinse, repeat. SWIM takes benzos daily anyway for anxiety. Just curious if SWIY has gone one binges such as this. (SWIM's first time).

Swim's first binge lasted from a sunday until the next sunday. Swim was doing lines all day, before, during and after work. Swim and his room mates threw a couple of parties during this week, though swim was the only to partake in the blow.
