Best way to dry San Pedro
What is the recommended way to dry SP cactus so that it can be pulverized? SWIM suspects that oven-drying might be OK for small amounts. But for bulk amounts, is it OK to dry it in the sun, or does sunlight degrade the nutrients of interest?
SWIM recently attempted to dry sliced-up SP cactus in a cool, dry, dark outdoor place. The outcome was not good. In the first week they were covered with blue mold, in the second week they began to get mushy and rot. By the 3rd week the pulp had all turned into a brown liquid exudate and dripped into the ground, leaving only crispy, brown dried skins. SWIM reckons that the pulp got fermented by bacteria and wild yeasts, which is bad because some species are known to eat phenylethylamines. So with that risk, combined with the fact that most of the juice had been lost, the experiment was declared a failure and scrapped, as SWIM was not interested in wasting time and effort on a low-recovery batch. Any suggestion on how to dry SP or related cactus? |
