Question what is the peyote button?

I read here that it is the whole cacti but have read elsewhere that it is only the top of the plant and it is dried into a "disc"
I ask because swim is very interested in
trying payote and growing many plants but with the prices and time it takes to grow plus the overcultivation swim is hoping very much that one can cut a button from the top of the cacti and have it continue to grow.
swim will buy san pedro as well, but is eager to form a relationship with a very special plant.
this is my first post on this board so feel free to refer me to any good sources of information on this subject. swim thanks you for your
time and any help you are willing to give.

p.s. also is an older plant more potent?

Re: what is the button?

The peyote "button" infers the top-most portion of the cactus Lophophora Williamsii - the green part. Below this is the taproot that extends down into the soil. The Native people's carefully slice off the top, green portion and then lightly dust the top of the exposed root with sulfur powder to prevent infection and rot so the plant will continue to live and grow more "buttons."

The older plants are larger, so, yes, they would contain more alkaloids.

The fresh peyote button can be ingested (after pulling out the cotton-like fur so one doesn't choke) as is. Or allowed to dry if planning to store it for another time.

Re: what is the button?

Look around. This question was answered quite recently in these forums.
