SWIM has found that "First and Last and Always" and "Floodland" albums by The Sisters of Mercy to have wonderful effects whilst tripping.

SWIM's other favourite albums whilst tripping include:
"Pornography"-The Cure
"Telepathic with The Deceased" - Xasthur
"Genevieve" - Velvet Cacoon
"Cthonic Rites" - MOSS

Bands in general:
-Cinema Strange
-Shiva in Exile
-Object 4
-Droid Sector
-Quantec
-And Also The Trees

SWIM finds these all very wonderful if someone enjoys a dark trip.

Excellent suggestions. I think any of the earlier ozrics (i.e. Erpland and before), or for a more coherent chaotic approach Strangeitude, Become the Other and/or waterfall cities.

You and the other two of the Radio Gnome Trilogy.

If you are after a dark trip/back ground trip "noise", try the Quake or Mechwarrior sound tracks (to/of the games).
Another good one is the Dune soundtrack (The D.Lynch version, music by B.Eno and Toto).

Good old Hendrix, electric ladyland, specifically, 1983.

Re: Trippy music recommendations for LSD?

SWIM's personal favorites, or at least what he often ends up listening to for their psychedelic or trippy effects.

Tool, of course. I'd be a nazi if I didn't mention this one SWIM says. Psychedelic overtones all throughout. Undertow is great, Ænema and Lateralus are even better for psychedelics and I can't neglect to mention 10,000 Days, not quite as polished as Lateralus but it's quite a journey anyway, and songs like Rosetta Stoned have a definite psychedelic sound, which isn't surprising considering the lyrics in the track leading to it (Lost Keys [Blame Hofmann]) are clearly about LSD.

The Mars Volta - De-loused in the Comatorium ...it's pretty nuts. Definitely the best album, because it had more music than random noise. It's much more carefully thought out. Frances the Mute is also 99% excellent. All TMV is trippy, but SWIM likes music in his noise.

Opeth - Damnation ... this is wonderful if you want something truly serene and beautiful. Floaty drifting melodies and amazing composition, soft melodic vocals. There's a lot from their other albums like this too, but all are mixed with loads of death metal.. which isn't really SWIM's thing for tripping, but Damnation is their pretty music the entire album.

Paul Oakenfold makes a lot of techno that I keep going back to.

Ataxia. If you haven't heard them, you just wouldn't understand. Go get both albums, dose, and prepare yourself.

Placebo is always very pleasant, good to chill.

An odd one... White Zombie. You wouldn't think this would be that good for psychedelics but SWIM recently found that psychedelics go surprisingly well with it. Try Astro-Creep 2000 for starters and work your way into the older stuff.

Led Zeppelin. Come on. It had to be on my list, there's just something about it that turns any trip friendly for SWIM.

Sevendust! Not. SWIM hasn't tried but I can only think that it would take a powerful psychedelic to make them seem like they don't suck. I wonder if that would work.. hmm

Oh, also, the soundtracks from Chrono Trigger / Chrono Cross have been found to be wonderfully peaceful.

And Rammstein, the music is very energetic, but at the same time, hypnotic. It's definitely worth a try.

Re: Trippy music recommendations for LSD?

Swim only tripped four times (five really but back to back acid nights weren't great) and his favorite two albums are Grateful Dead's Anthem of the Sun and Jimi Hendrix's Axis Bold as Love.

SWIM listen to all types of music but never got around to the Dead so the first time SWIM tripped SWIM delved into them and man, SWIM am really happy. SWIM am really into AOXOMOXOA and Anthem. Real psychedelic stuff. Always have liked Hendrix but just a great album.

Pink Floyd SWIM imagines would be sick but never got around to it.

Oh yeah and try some Animal Collective. Merriwether Post Pavillion is their most recent album. Sick cover art as well.

Happy tripping. SWIM taking some time off. In 6 weeks SWIM has dropped twice and taken shrooms three times (in 8 days)

My favourite song to listen to whacked is Treefingers - Radiohead. Or any Radiohead really.

Re: trippy music recommendations for LSD?

SWIM's personal favorite music selection for any hallucinogenic trip is (ambient) black metal and drone/doom. Electric Wizard, Burzum, Sunn O))), Xasthur, Wolf Eyes, Nortt, Catacombs, etc... SWIM enjoys the darkest possible soundtrack while tripping. Said user enjoys challenging themselves with the most obscure and depraved music they can find.

For a layed back trip, SWIM has recommended Younger Brother -- a fantastic psytrance group.
