i LOVE electronica. i prefer trip-hop such as massive attack, portishead, and other such groups from the bristol area. massive attacks music envelops you and surrounds you. great beats and nice slow tempo. (i prefer down-tempo). portisheads music is recorded on all analogue equipment. they use samples from 1960-70's orchestral jazz. very melodic tone. extremely relaxing. not mention excellent scratching too.

When SWIM heard the DJ drop Teardrop at a massive psychedelic party it was the most beautiful thing he had ever heard. He was close to breaking down and weeping with happiness.

Massive Attack have some excellent tracks, but SWIM prefers something more laid back and relaxing like Oliver Shanti, Klaus Shultze or Eno-- that probably reflects his age!

The return of the Brecker brothers .. swim was more than pleased when a life-gig showing up on pay-tv just when the shrooms started kickin´ in, with a very Aztec / shroomylike stage and lightshow, plus, the music was really an experience
... swim being a drummer once, could feel the intesity of a distinct pattern Dennis Chambers put on a Hi-hat and Ride-cymbal, as exciting and intense as he´d play it in that moment just discovering it to work while playing and feeling like thinking of the first erection ever in public.

these coincidnece seem to be conducted by the genius above which is swim... sometimes swim thinks, at least he´ll never forget)

Jean Michel Jarre's breakthrough new age electro album Oxygene is perfect for tripping. No lyrics, just ambient sounds that can make the listener feel like they're floating through different worlds while on a psychedelic. Big time recommendations on this one.

The most psychedelic rock album I have ever heard... Climate of Hunter by the legendary Scott Walker. Or for an extended space journey Giles Reave's Sea of Glass or John Serrie's A Stargazer's Journey. Anything by Nick Drake is quite lovely to come down to. Also must agree with Woodman, Bach (CPE) or some excellent classical is also a requirement.

Tunes to trip to

What music do you like to listen to while tripping?

My boat gets floated by a range of different styles from Shpongle to Mozart to Ott (blumenkraft is a masterpiece) to Grateful Dead to Acid Mothers Temple to PINK FLOYD.

Point taken.

Beautiful, atmospheric music like a perfect circle's "3 libras", massive attack's "teardrop" and jefferson airplane's "white rabbit" give the most euphoric feeling while on LSD, as the beauty of the sounds inspires the most amazing visuals.

Re: trippy music recommendations for LSD?

70's Dutch prog rock band Focus are also quite insane for tripping. Their compositions are so wacky, complex and intricate that it sounds irrestibly mind-blowing whilst tripping. Here's an example from YouTube.

Aphex is sick on acid, especially if you can catch him live and get to see his visuals. Infected, on the other hand, have been gash for years and years.

Re: trippy music recommendations for LSD?

Jam Bands provide a very good expierience for SWIM. The chemistry between bandmates can be amazing anytime, esp. while on LSD. Listening to The Grateful Dead is the ultimate trip for SWIM. The way they play off each other it's almost like their telepathically communicating at points. Can be some really heavy stuff.

I think musicians tend to appreciate this more, though, having heard some musically-challenged trippers compare Dead jams to elevator music.

To each their own, i suppose...
