Re: Withdrawl Really Sucks

This is a tough one - does SWIG's doctor not want to keep prescibing these meds? He does have a responsibility to get you off painlessly, but if your disc isn't repairable what would SWIG do for the pain without the Oxy?

Re: Withdrawl Really Sucks

That's the curse of opiates. SWIM was recently reminded of that with kratom when SWIM stopped using. SWIM found SWIMself waking feeling tired and depressed, and these symptoms would disappear once SWIM took the kratom. In SWIY's case though, SWIM would recommend considering kratom as a possible alternative since it seems to have good painkilling properties and would help to buffer the withdrawals. SWIM does not have any pain conditions and is just a hedonist, but SWIY has a good reason to use narcotics. Ask SWIY's MD about other alternatives to opiates (other muscle relaxants, neurontin, fentanyl patches to reduce bolus dosing and hence nagging withdrawal symptoms breaking through), and try to reserve the oxys for worse pain. Sadly, there is little that will kill pain effectively besides opiates and nonsteroidals like ibuprofen, so SWIY is will have to compromise. Another thing to try would be acupuncture. Another bit of advice is to try to maintain the same dose. One of the most insidious effects of opiates is not the muscle-cramping, flu-symptoms, insomnia, nausea and depression when one quits a habit cold turkey, but the gradual draw into using more and more frequently to quell the nagging depression, fatigue and other unpleasantries which manifest upon keeping the same dose and frequency. Surgery is also well worth considering if the disc continues to cause that degree of pain. In the long run, it can be a small price to pay if it controls the problem. Good luck.
