Question about somewhat crushed San Pedro
When SWIM came home last sunday, he found his front door window broken and several things of minimal value stolen. The only real damage done was that four of his six San Pedro cacti were stolen, and the remaining two beaten for some reason. The other suffered minimal damage, while the other was more severely damaged. Should SWIM pot it with the few roots it still has, or make a clean cut and reroot it?
SWIM noticed, while pulling them both off and repotting, that the less damaged (and once rerooted one) had much more massive root coverage. Also the roots spread horizontally more than vertically. It seemed as if rerooting the cactus at an early base stimulated it to grow stronger roots. SWIM is now wondering whether he should just cut and reroot the other one also, or try and see if it survives with just a few root buds, spreading vertically. |
