Bodily anxiety re: LSD
Welp, SWIM's phriend recently had some questions for SWIM, so SWIM thought s/he'd ask DF for their input.
SWIM's phriend dosed one drop (maybe two) of (liquid) LSD earlier this week. The experience didn't warrant him/her disoriented, but s/he had some effects s/he'd like to discuss. The visuals s/he had were minor-- while reading a webpage the words would wave back and forth, distance themselves from one other, come closer to one other, enlarge, shrink, etc. His/her mind wasn't really "out there," but s/he definitely felt the effects. Now, the LSD made his/her body feel very tense (mostly in the spinal area). S/he had to lay down as it was very strenuous on his/her body to stand. This also happens on psiloc(yb)in for him/her. SWIM's phriend attributes this to the drug(s) allowing him/her to release the stress in his/her body, and to find ways to relax and lay down (sometimes contorting his/her body in strange positions) to release it accordingly. However, it is very uncomfortable, so SWIM's phriend was wondering if others feel the same sometimes. Also, SWIM's phriend has minor/mild anxiety, and s/he couldn't seem to stop focusing on the left side of his/her chest. SWIM him/herself gets anxiety sometimes, and has found that s/he puts his/her hand over his/her heart as an unconscious way to "protect" him/herself. Does anybody else feel this way on LSD, where they seem a little too concentrated on their physical body than on the experience in the mind? Also, every now and then SWIM's phriend would experience a big rush over their mind/head. It was somewhat like what people call the "shocks" people experience while quitting SSRIs, but not really painful or discomforting, just very strange and alien. SWIM's phriend hasn't had this on LSD before. SWIM's phriend couldn't fall asleep after the visuals resided, as s/he was still focused on his/her chest, so s/he took 2 mg alprazolam (at separate periods) to try to alleviate the discomfort so s/he could sleep. So, SWIM is just asking if SWIM's phriend's experience is uncommon. SWIM would like to enjoy the mental effects of LSD w/o the uncomfortable physical effects on the body, and was wondering how common the aforementioned feelings are. Has SWIY ever taken ibuprofen with LSD? Would this help? (SWIM's phriend does not take any prescription medication.) Thanks. Last edited by mouthwater; 15-05-2007 at 17:25. |

Re: Bodily anxiety re: LSD
It didn't feel good. His/her body felt stressed and tense, and s/he had difficulty standing due to this. S/he had to lay down and contort his/her body and limbs in strange positions in order to stretch his/her aching frame; these uncomfortable feelings lasted for ~2 hours, followed by extrasensitivty in the left side of his/her chest, likely due to anxiety. S/he couldn't get to sleep because of this fixation on the chest.

Re: Bodily anxiety re: LSD
Does (s)he stay physically active regularly or live a fairly sedentary lifestyle? Psychedelics can make one acutely aware of bodily sensations. Lab monkey would recommend taking up regular excersise and stretching to maximize hedonic value for tripping. Yoga or Tai Chi are great for keeping the body limber and relaxed, dispelling the Reichian body armor of psychophysiological tension we tend to be stuck in due to habituated movement, posture, et cetera. Remember kids, to get the most out of your trip, stay happy and stay fit

Re: Bodily anxiety re: LSD
SWIM's phriend's phriend dosed one hit and had a very enjoyable time (and reported back no chest anxiety). Soon afterwards, SWIM's phriend and SWIM's phriend's phriend dosed two hits together and had a very enjoyable time. SWIM's phriend, who was experiencing the tight chest earlier, dosed .5 mg of alprazolam to alleviate his/her symptoms. About an hour later s/he took another .5 mg because his/her back was tense. S/he didn't notice alprazolam affecting his/her the trip. There was no anxiety. SWIM's phriend and SWIM's phriend's phriend listened to some Phish, played backgammon while watching El Grande Lebowski, and threw a frisbee around. They got drunk in the evening at their phriend's birthday bash.
SWIM thanks y'all for the replies. |
