Legitimate uses of Research Chemicals
If (hypothetically) a chemical manufacturer were to inquire of a potential customer the intended use of said chemicals would a detailed explanation be needed?
What would the contents of such an explanation entail? Now this isn't some drawn out way of finding out what one should say to a chemical manufacturer to insure the delivery of said chemicals, no not at all - rather SWIM is greatly interested in what legitimate uses a recipient of compounds of this type may have. All in the name of research..... |

always looking for a soil binding agent to improve water retention in case of drought or water restrictions. sometimes, when building scale models, only a certain type of custom made glue will do. sewage pipe degreasing is always troublesome as well. should one be an accredited scientist, the innocuous samples can be used as reference standards / archival comparators for analytical purposes.

Re: Legitimate uses of Research Chemicals
Certain research chems are being used to map out the effect of serotonin and dopamine sub receptors in rats. If a certain researcher was looking to map out specefic receptor sites with a neural scan he may very well looking into research chems. Shulgin himself mentions that as part of their legitimate use.

Re: Legitimate uses of Research Chemicals
NEVER, EVER use a reason that involves the administration of (ZYX) to ANY living creature such as mice, snakes, or humans. That requires more licenses than you could shake a dead-dog at. Plants? Sure. Roach-Traps? Okay. But no sentient mammals or equivalent. That includes SWIM.

Re: Legitimate uses of Research Chemicals
One of SWIM's favorites involves testing simple factors such as pH and solubility, which is entirely legitimate and does constitute scientific research. Despite looking like a re-invention of the wheel, these factors can vary with a given batch of a chemical, depending on impurities and such. A few beakers or test tubes, some pH test papers and a few chemicals like sodium bicarbonate, muriatic acid, petroleum ether and isopropyl alcohol would really be all that's necessary for this sort of research.
SWIM is not sure whether this would satisfy a chemical supplier, but it very well could be enough to satisfy legal requirements for 'being a researcher'. SWIM has not really put it to the test, but it's difficult to see how it would fail to meet the definition of 'research'. P.S. in the USA, it's typically easy and inexpensive to file a business application with one's state and/or city of residence. These days it can often be done online, and the license received almost immediately. SWIM doesn't see how it could hurt to be the president and CEO of a business called "xxxyyy research" when attempting to acquire research chemicals or verify one's legitimacy as a researcher. There are other things that be added to this to provide additional legitimacy, which SWIM will leave to the imagination and inventiveness of the reader.
