Does anyone have information on Meperidine?

SWIM recently got a few meperidine pills (aka Demerol) but he can't find any information on erowid or google about the recreational value of them. He has taken two before and definitely got a great buzz from it but he was curious as to their effectiveness when insuffulated. According to a few websites I found it seems as though it is a possible route of administration but I am clueless as to how the bioavailability or just simply the effectiveness is effected.

Just thought I would update this seeing as though the forum lacks a lot of information about Demerol. SWIM decided to take one 50mg pill via insuffulation last night around 8pm, after a day of taking a lot of opioids (10-15mg of oxy and 400mg of propoxy), so he was pretty chilled out when he went and did it. It was the worst burning sensation he had ever felt, so bad that the tear duct on that side of his face was literally crying even though the pill was so tiny. After that he blacked out until like 3 AM or so and just snapped back to feeling chilled out and not tired at all. Probably slept a bit during that interval but he knows he was conscious at some points as well.

Also he took some xanax here and there when he originally was planning to go to sleep and when he came back from the black out to try and get some rest.

Hahahahaha!! Poor SWIM! He found out about never trying to take a meperidine by way of his schnozzola. And that goes double for plugging it.

Demerol can be taken orally or by injection - unless SWIM is a total masochist. And be aware that tolerance to this grows faster than anything else of the opiate-class that Bongo ever encountered. Bongo had those on prescription for migraines once. Offered them again - Bongo declined and asked for codeine. He got that.

For the confused folks out there in the UK - meperidine is called Pethidine where you are. It was the first fully synthetic narcotic to hit the marketplace commonly. Not sure if that report had looked into methadone, though.

SWIM has a bit of hear-say to share: Apparently it's always been regarded on the streets as a poor substitute for opiate agonists derived from Papaver somniferum; the term "dummy oil" has been apparently been used in place of "demerol." Most likely this refers to its recreational potential from the perspective of an I.V. heroin user, not oral users.

SWIM is sorry that he was working all week-end and missed this thread when it was "hot off the presses", cause swim would have told SWIG - What ever you do don't insufflate!"
SWIM has come across those in his travels. Never got anything orally from them other than the sensation that he poured hydrochloric acid on his toungue. One of the most painful little pills he's ever come across.

With no tolerance, 100mg of meperidine - orally - will flatten you into a soggy, soft wad of euphoric cotton. But after that first dose - you'd need to swallow the whole damn jar to get anywhere near that first effect*. Not suggested for anything other than emergency use. Such as when you have a broken leg or a kidney-stone and are being transported STAT to hospital for care. Such is why doctors often carry a vial of liquid Demerol in their little, black bags.

SWIM has noticed that with Demerol as well. His first time taking it he took 100mg and it was a great and unique high he had never felt from an opioid before, however it has never really been quite the same. The insuffulation was easily the most painful thing ever. SWIM burried his head in a pillow he was in so much pain and awoke hours later in a stupor.

SWIM was in mild opiate withdrawl once and obtained a quantity of 10 meperidine and was excited because he thought that demerol was supposed to be pretty strong. SWIMs main oxy hookup had given birth and had a C-section or something, but for whatever reason she was given an (what SWIM assumes to be an I.V.) shot of meperidine. The woman, being an oxy addict also reflected on that experience as being intensely pleasurable, she described it as like "just getting a huge breath of fresh air all at once."... anyways SWIM is rambling again. So, swim had scored 10 meperidine and after swallowing a few he felt nothing. SWIM decided then to snort one... heh, SWIM remembers pain...LOTs of pain!!! After cosuming all 10 meperidine pillls that evening he obtained mild at best releif from what was an already mild withdrawl, assuming of course it was not placebo effect.

Does the tolerance lessen with time?

SWIM wants to know because he recently underwent a rhinoplasty and was given a form of Demerol by his doctor to cope with the pain. However, in SWIM's initial doses, he was in a world of pain, half-sedated, and shortly fell into a deep sleep.

So will SWIM, who has a few pills left, never be able to feel that great initial Demerol high, because he was so pained and slept through the initial dosage?

Or, if SWIM were to stash his remaining pills for a few months or even a year from now, would he get that same high again?

BTW - SWIM had surrealistically trippy dreams on Demerol.

Yes, the tolerance wears off after a while. But using meperidine for pain that will be on-going is a poor choice on the part of the physician. As said - it's a good emergency analgesic, But once at hospital etc. - something else should be prescribed for the treatment of pain that is likely to last more than a day or so.

Throw it in the back of a cabinet. In a few months it'll be good as new. And then stop working again! LOL.
