Drug info - strange antihistamine in pseudoephedrine pills?

SWIM came across some buried treasure in his med cabinet. 3 24 tab boxes of basic nasal decongestant meds.
they contain:
Chlorpheniramine maleate 4 mg
Pseudoephedrine HCl 60 mg

SWIM's question is: wtf is Chlorpheniramine maleate? and how much of it is too much? has anyone come across this before?

CPM is bad, it has little to no recreational value. It's also the reason CCCs make idiots drop dead.

thanks for the input. swim just took 2 of the pills(120mg), which doesnt exceed the warning on the box. swim's never done pseudoephedrine before. what dose is considered a moderate recreational dose?

SWISven had a stock of pure PSE for a while, and tried playing with it. Really, he didn't notice any stimulant effects... Just some nice, clear sinuses.

hmm. swim's buddy said it woke him up pretty good. swim took another one(180mg). swim is certainly more awake than before...but hasnt noticed any real euphoric effects. no abnormal heartbeat anything. swim has some weird beating noise in his left ear every few seconds, but he doesnt know if thats from the pseudo though. its kind of annoying.

and yes, swim's sinuses are pretty clear. ;p

swim read up on the differences between pseudo and ephedrine. apparently pseudo has less of an effect on the CNS. according to an uncited source on wikipedia it doesnt have any real stimulating effects. truckers still use it to stay awake though? can't really find a clear answer.

swim read up on CPM also and apparently its also used as an anti-depressant. interesting.

lol. in the end, swim doesnt recommend PSE. left swim with a high heart rate and extreme nervousness.

Chlorpheniramine may be a dangerous drug recreationally, but for swim that and diphenhydramine are the only antihistamines that work for him allergy/congestion wise. Only problem is diphenhyrdamine makes him tired so chlorpheniramine in the day, diphenhydramine at night.
