Induced Vomiting When Drunk?
...but one that might enhance alcohol safety.
One of the "saving graces" of alcohol, and makes it look like less of a "hard" drug than it is, is that the volume of an effective dose is so large that the most practical way of using it is orally (yes, SWIM knows all about the poop chute, etc, but what do 99% of drinkers do?) The fact that it's taken orally makes the body's natural defense against poisoning--vomiting--more effective than with some other drugs SWIM could mention. But the fatal flip side to that is vomiting while unconscious, which has claimed lives. Granted this often happens when mixing, but it can well happen just with straight booze. Question: intentional vomiting is usually associated with bulimia, and has (almost entirely) negative connotations. But if SWIY knows she's inclined to drink to excess frequently, could it not be a net positive to know how to vomit theraputically, thus voiding the stomach and making choking much less likely? |

Re: A gross subject
Swim would much rather drink less. I expect that the long-term health effects from frequent over-excessive alcohol consumption are far more likely to kill you than choking on your own vomit.
Also, frequent vomiting has many side effects including tooth-decay, fatigue, sore throats, swollen glands and you will lose your last meal, which can never be a good thing. |

Re: A gross subject
Hmm, Swim gets what SWIY means, but thinks it would not work.
Intentional vomiting is not that easy to teach yourself, and what you have learned you will not remember to do when drunk. It requires some focus to make yourself vomit. Experience taught Swim that in situations where you have taken too much (orally) of a drug and you think it's better to get rid of it, it's nearly impossible cough it back up. No matter how experienced you are with purging. So Swiy should follow Grecian's advise: drink less alcohol. Grecian mentioned some of the physical side-effects of frequent purging, but remember that purging is addictive. (not joking) It's like the evil cousin of the runner's high. But the comedown is way worse. |

Quote:
Seroiusly, SWIM recently quit a 260ml/day habit, not because he doesn't LOVE ETOH, but because he's finally reached a rate of consumption that interferes with his goals. If SWIM lacked motivation, he'd happily continue...but he's always been curious about this. He rarely vomits from booze anymore, but when he does he feels safer--thus the question posed. |
