Nootropic Recommendations?
SWIM is interested in Nootropics for all the lovely things he's heard about them, including a healthier and better functioning brain.
SWIM thinks Piracetam sounds promising, however one thing it doesn't seem to do from what SWIM has read, is increase the levels of these neurotransmitters: dopamine, nonepinephrine and serotonin. Is there such a product that does all the things piracetam does (enhance cognition and memory, slow down brain aging, increase blood flow and oxygen to the brain) but also helps generate the aforementioned neurotransmitters? SWIM realizes he could just supplement piracetam with 5htp and tyrosine, but an all in one would be nice, provided it isn't any more costly. What Nootropics does SWIY use/recommend and why? All info is appreciated. Thanks. |

Re: Nootropic Recommendations?
SWIM is looking for all around improvement, that is healthy for him and will enhance his concentration and memory. Also, to enhance the effects of some drugs, whilst reducing the damage of drug use.

Re: Nootropic Recommendations?
Swiy has the right idea starting with piracetam: this is extremely cheap and is extremely synergistic with mainly stimulants and psychedelics. Other -racetams may be tried but piracetam is probably the best starting point due to cost effectiveness and research.
Regarding increasing neurostransmitters something like hydergine would be great to try, it is one of the more popular nootropics and will increase certain neurotransmitters that need it. This is why many people report a feeling of "well-being" and better mood. Another one is rhodiola rosea which is an adaptogen, it puts many people in a great mood and some even call it a "high" for the first two weeks or so. It increases permeability of the blood brain barrier so more "stuff" can get in, and (I don't remember where I read this) will mimick neurotransmitters and actually bind to the recepters. |

Thanks very much sterling100.
If anyone else cares to share what SWIY uses and why, SWIM would still like to know. Cheers. |

Re: Nootropic Recommendations?
SWIM thinks piracetam is helpful, but is not sure that any of these poducts actually cause an increase in receptors. Hydergine, l-deprenyl, centrophenoxine, sublutiamine, oxyracetam, aniracetam, choline, l-carnitine, rhodiola, ginseng, bacopa, celastrus all work to some degree as cognitive enhancers and there is a wealth of reading on the net and in other threads on this forum. Most optomize neurotransmitter function, though, rather than increasing receptor count.

Re: Nootropic Recommendations?
I think he's asking about neurotransmitter levels, not the amount of receptors. Never heard of celastrus before, I just looked it up and could only find that it's a poisonous plant. Does it have use as a nootrpoic?

Re: Nootropic Recommendations?
Sorry - misread the first post.
Aside from deprenyl, only selegeline raises dopamine. Most of the others boost or optomise function of acetylcholine, or directly supplement it as a precursor. Celastrus panniculatus is a seed with cognitive enhancing properties. Look up the plant and SWIY can find lots of info. It is an Ayurvedic herb. |

AW: Nootropic Recommendations?
SWIm has 2 questions:
1. all these effects are reversible, in sense of: "when SWIY stops taking it, the effects will sooner or later stop", arent they? and 2. of the choline things, which one can be recommended as a cheap and effective one, since there are so many he doesn know which one to choose. (no actual prices please, since forbidden) |

Re: Nootropic Recommendations?
Piracetam is the most tried and true. Most report best results with it even though it is by far the cheapest and easiest to find. However, abundant information can be found on the racetams on the web. Do a google search..

Re: Nootropic Recommendations?
Sorry for the misunderstanding. Choline, lecithin, and DMAE are all cheap and adequate. Centrophenoxine is expensive and more difficult to find, though likely a superior source. SWIM takes choline and centro.
