Legal Heroin Experiment

I read a great article somewhere on df about a 10 year experiment with legal heroin in either Sweden or Switzerland (90% sure) that resulted in an 80% reduction in addiction over the 10 year experiment.

Can't find it using the search. Can anyone post a pointer?

Re: Legal Heroin Experiment

The prescribed heroin programs in the EU are slowly proceeding and expanding. They seem to be experiments which are expanded bit by bit, due to their sensitive nature. I do not know about addiction reduction, but I do know that the programs have an enormous impact on crime reduction. In Holland they have been expanding the program even under the reign of of the ultra conservative christian government. The effects are simply to
positive to deny. Interesting enough the vice president of the International Narcotics Control Board has been a driving factor behind the prescribed methadon program.
I hope the ELD will be releasing a study on this in the coming years.

Re: Legal Heroin Experiment

Try on the website for the central comittee for the treatment of heroin addicts: http://www.ccbh.nl/ENG/index.htm. I think this has info.on both the dutch and swiss trials, which are now being expanded to the UK and smaller ones in Canada and Australia.

Re: Legal Heroin Experiment

Thanks for all the pointers all. Haven't seen what I'm looking for.

There was an article posted here, or linked to, that talked about an extended (10 year) legal heroin experiment in either Switzerland (I think) or Sweden. Great article that I'd really like to find again. Conclusion of the article was that they saw an 80% reduction in Herion addiction over the 10 year period.

Last bump looking for help finding that exact article.

Thanks-

- Beltane

Re: Legal Heroin Experiment

I´ve read that there´re trials in canada, also.

the trial in germany was about to stop, because it wasn´t meant to get any
follow-up treatmentthat would have led to dropping the drug completely, which would be the major criteria for expanding it ( the failure in the system) or getting some sort of this project alive in legislation and the real world.

Nonetheless, one candidate of the torys is telling on his q&a site, that those already in treatment will be treated longer according to some paragraphs of a stockholm convention, so that this exclusive number of junkies will recieve further treatement.

Next step, for letting us hope, wait and die the next 10-20years would be a trial study for heroin and subsequent therapy, aiming to "heal" the users, by getting them off the drug.

Question is, if such a study, that might lead to decriminalising heroin, would ever be legally approved. -I don´t think so.
