Presidential election : the Sarkozy wave has swept over France...
it has happened. everybody knew it would, but it's always a surprise. times call for charismatic and somewhat extremist leaders.
do not expect a change in drug related policy in France in the next 5 years, but rather a toughening of laws based moral notions, and french pressure in the E.U. for more repressive drug-positions from its territorial neighbours... oh and the future ministry of french identity... he hasn't won yet, but he will in two weeks.... oh he's a great admirer of the north american dream btw yesterday he was calling for the new french dream. sounds like a nightmare for a bunch of reasons http://www.lemonde.fr/web/vi/0,47-0@...-898554,0.html open wide blaaaah b |

Re: Presidential election : the Sarkozy wave has swept over France...
yup...
it was pretty much unavoidable... the guy's turned into a good orator, appeals to the extreme right by chatting with suburbian residents (in front of cameras) and announcing that he'll pressure wash ( Kärcher) the scum away, using a word for scum ( racaille) which is very offensive. Then he promised to restore the glory of France, to seperate the word Nation from nationalism, to cut off the social welfare for those lazy bums who don't deserve it and restore the value of work, the value of being french...create a ministry of french identity...no immigration and a review of current immigrants which have to prove their worth, and desire to be french and now he's pushing the roman catholic angle and admiration for the USA ( social mobility start poor end rich), more police and repression ( justified by the need for laws to be visibly enforced and to strengthen the spirit of the Republique) the new french dream... oh he'll win alright, yet another country in europe falling for this kind of alarmist approach. In a way this period makes me think of the 30's, recession, fear, war, rise of fascism, a new left coalition... but with a global village, economy backed podcasted twist... |

Re: Presidential election : the Sarkozy wave has swept over France...
I was just thinking he sounds like he was bucking for appointment to lead the Vichy regime under Hitler! Maybe someone will poison his wine. Has he promised to bring back the Guillotine and re-open the Bastille yet?

Re: Presidential election : the Sarkozy wave has swept over France...
everyone worries about the left or the right. you mentioned the 40s, you had both then. the far left of communism, who were into ethnic cleansing, concentration camps, forced support of a single political party, and violent geographic expansion. and on the right good old fashioned right wing fascist like the germans....who were into ethnic cleansing, concentration camps, forced support of a single political party, and violent geographic expansion.
extremes seem to run in the same vein. here in america, they open short term internment camps for political prisoners. a good example of this would be peir 47 in san francisco. we have "black facilities" in other countries where interrogators hired by the us working for third party corperations torture "terrorists". black folk are 4 times more likely to recieve the death penalty for murder than are white folk, and even more likely to recieve it if the victim is white, simarily only 1 in 12 who murders an african american receives the death penalty. we consantly set up puppet states, mostly under dictators, though occasionally we rig up a few "elections" to make our placements look legitimate. this is neofascism. we arent REALLY holding people in torture camps against their will. theyre freedom centers, where we teach them about the glories of democracy. we're not really ethnic cleansing, weve just slanted our justice and social systems to put them in jail or give them the death penalty. were not really expanding our borders, just building foreign puppet states. we dont force people to vote for one party here, but if you dont vote republican youre "emboldening the terrorists". new laws to strengthen the republic....sounds like the french patriot act. Seems like everybody is so bloody conservative these days. He's 5.5 points ahead of the competition, but I would vote for Ms. Royal anyday.

Re: Presidential election : the Sarkozy wave has swept over France...
For those understanding it: http://www.titanic-magazin.de/newsticker.html
*lol* Ségo:Ségolène Brabie Royal is the reformist candidate. This sympathetic millionaire is the wet-dream of candiadates of the social party. As the youngest of the Royal Tennebaum family, she began her -Royal- way of life as a Mannequin for serious gestures, just befor engaging in the module gastronomy, where she invented the until today known Hamburger Royal TS (type socialist).Today, this exceptional political talent (exceptional bad) will encourage in Marseillaise singing and hoisting up the Tricolore. She wants more justice and good mood inbetween the french people, and proposes the disruption of Canada and a general ban of youth. A clear "I don´t care" to the European Conventions (égalité), is the same as is her attitude (saucisson) to the average people (canaille). Thanks to her splendid appearance and her good manners, the frech problems seem to get resolved as easy as never before! Sarko: Nicolas Ecrasez L´Iinfâme Sarkozy XII. is a candidaten for reformation. This sympathetic millionaire started his normal life as a vendor for steam and pressure machines of Kärcher. His political programs ensures the free asylum of draft and a right to stay for natives as the right of all french to beat up unwanted immigrants (force de frappe). A clear "merde" to the european convention contract is ascribed to this happy corpse as well as his his good connection to the youth of the land (scum!): as such, he organizes grill barbecues for the youth in the suburbs at the local power plant. In privat, he´s interested in anything fast: fast cars, fast predjudice, fast changing realtionships to women. Especially the economics are hoping France to fall into the next crisis with new élan. Re: Presidential election : the Sarkozy wave has swept over France...
Wonder if Sarkozy used to study Hitler's speeches. It has been rumoured even Fidel Castro studied them because they were so damn convincing.
How will Sarkozy deal with the suburb kids? Put them all in jail? I'm expecting some riots. Let's re-read Loic Wacquant. |

i dont know much about the situation just that he is likely to be elected but it does seem as though Bush is loosing one right hand man (Blair) and gaining another in his place.

Re: Presidential election : the Sarkozy wave has swept over France...
oh yes, it really seems like the french want their very own GW Bush, which Sarkozy admires after all ( his words again)...
2nd best idol after......Jean Jaures. Yes.... one could say that this is the result of the mainstream / inexistant political education, leading to a democracy of customer service, populism and individual interests before anything else... following the heavy tendency to vote for a person rather than the ideas, which always somewhat depressing. Not saying that Royal's ideas are that great either ( wishywashy to non existant program with reactionary oddballs, from this daughter of a colonel, such as re-installing a form of military conscription etc) but it's socialists over Sarkozy any day, for oh so many reasons... yes, Sarkozy does have a Vichy-ist angle, but even more serious Berlusconi inclinations... he's one of the first french politicians to use media this way, and rely so much on spin effects. it had to happen, and will probably stay that way from now one, because it surely works... oh well, there are worse political situations in the world, and France unfortunately gets what it deserves, one could say... yes, GW is definately gaining an ally here, and it's been a while... some new school counter propaganda can be found online, if you want a shiver : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbxkaFuWBQA |

Re: Presidential election : the Sarkozy wave has swept over France...
the conservatives around here are more and more crawling into GW ass and his political direction, like adapting to the worst of the GW "American Way", leaving out all the freedom .. I mean, come-on, spying out all the internet and phone calls, just because there might be someday an assault? - we haven´t had one yet and it looks like we´re not going to have one, if we´d spare us the american world politics and affairs... but everything for a good trade, it wouldn´t hurt the rich, the bomb´s gonna explode in a pub, bureau-building or anything alike.
