Risperdal (Risperidone) messed me up

I was diagnosed with OCD for the past 3 and a half years b/c I dislocated my jaw and had head pain 24/7 which caused me delusional thoughts. I didn't know where the pain was from until recently. Anyway I took max doses of Paxil for 2 years and I was still horny as hell which amazes me b/c most people lose their sex drive on SSRIs right away. I didn't know nething at the time. About a year ago a psychiatrist put me on Risperdal at 6mg a day with the max dose of lexapro. The first day I took the Risperdal I went to a club and couldn't get an erection. I called the psychiatrist up and she said it was probably the lexapro. I didn't know much about it at the time until I continued taking Risperdal for a grand total of 4 months where I gained 40 pounds and got breast enlargement and even lactated. Im a freakin dude mind you. She fuked me up so bad b/c she even added wellbutrin to it b/c my parents didn't believe my head pains and thought it was all anxiety. As a result a year later after figuring out the problem was my jaw and getting it popped in place after suffering for 3 years I have no pain or anxiety and quit all drugs. The problem is I believe the Risperdal left me permanenly impotent. My sex drive is like 10 percent of what it used to be. I can't get erections at will anymore. My hormones tested were all very low for someone my age. Before this I was going through puberty and I believe Risperdal ended my puberty at 21 years of age. I know one other person this happened too and a year later he still is impotent. I believe the drug completely messed up my dopamine expression. I tried everything to reverse this from organic detox diet to dopamine precursor supplements but nothing really works. Also a dopamine agonist may not work either b/c the drug over sensitized my dopamine receptors which is why people get TD from this shit. Hopefully someone has some advice or knows someone that solved this. ~Thanx infectedmushroomz

Re: Risperdal messed me up

Yet another case of gross over-prescribing. 6 mg s a fairly large dose of Risperidone - when prescribed for schizophrenia this is a common & effective dose; for suspected OCD with psychotic features this is huge! That aside, I think the problem is as much the prolonged polypharmacy due to misdiagnosis - high dose SSRI's are known to cause sexual dysfunction also, although not the gynaecomastia (development of breast in males) & galctorrhoea (lactation) which are indeed amongst the less common but still well documented side effects of Riperidone. I'm not normally a big fan of litigation but in this case even I'd be seriously thinking about a neglicence claim against the psychiatrist - her job was to treat you, not your parents, & if you told her about your head pains & was ignored, then you may well have a good case. Have a look at the Zyprexa, Risperdal, Seroquel, lawsuits thread in Anti-psychotics as well. It's covered elsewhere also, but I can't find it at the moment (it's early here!)

As for what can be done to reverse this, I wish I knew. In the short term Sildenafil (Viagra) has shown good results in both Risperidone & SSRI related impotence (http://ajp.psychiatryonline.org/cgi/...full/163/3/494

http://www.biopsychiatry.com/sildenafil.htm)

Yohimbine hcl (but not yohimbe bark apparently) has been shown to improve performance also (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/d...t-yohimbe.html)

In the long term, your levels should even out over time - the neurochemical changes from SSRI's are huge, & can take a while to settle back to baseline & full functionality.

SSRIīs anti psychotics for chronic pain... shoot her, blame it on risperdal, do the world a favour and release it of one fascist person with the wrong profession and let this neuroleptic brain massacre dissapear for good.

Re: Risperdal messed me up

Co-incidence - please edit the above post of any material proposing violence to another, & please stop with the anti-psychiatry crap - it is getting very tired, & is crossing the border into trollage. If you must have an anti psychiatry rant, then by all means set up a thread in Some For All, but please stop adding this crap to any & all threads you see relating to mental health & the treatment thereof.

Iīve yet to see any proof, that treatment of "mental health" ever helped anyone beyond placebo and was ever anything more, than running amok with diagnoses and humorous medication-developtments, or surgical brain-massacres, in fact, I think itīs jsut good for distracting diagnosis from proper science and the cause-action and the third party verfification imperative.

Re: Risperdal messed me up

I don't even care about suing. I just want my sex drive back...I feel like this drug destroyed my life. Recently I found this article...http://www.javno.com/en/lifestyle/clanak.php?id=36663

When they say subsequent problems is that after discontinuing the drug?

Also viagra wouldn't make me horny just make my dick get big
And yohimbe is ineffective for me I already tried Passion Rx with yohimbe

There was no warning on the label about long term sexual side effects and I am so depressed about this I do feel like shooting my psychiatrist but she feeds in to the same bs that all fake doctors do. All I know was I was so horny before this drug now I can't feel my balls. They are numb like someone injected anasthetia in them and when I take a Passion Rx they become heavy and shrink up even more. Also I just recently got back my ability to cry. These drugs rob emotions and turn people into zombies. I feel like its going to take a few years to fix this. One guy took Dostinex one time after taking the drug at 3-4mg for 3 months and became super horny on the first dose and then the subsequent doses became ineffective. I have been doing tons of research as of late on neuroscience and believe that the dopamine terminals have been oversensitized and hence ability to hold dopamine has gone way down. The reason I believe this is when I was on my organic diet at one point I got 3 wet dreams in a row in 3 nights with no erecion. I also remember the orgasm being week. I believe the tolerance to hold the dopamine has gone down due to the receptors shrinking. I want to know how I could work on a way of increasing the size of the terminals by desensitizing them. I was thinking about fasting diet. Also I was thinking of exersizing the terminals with a dopamine agonist cycling it on and off. Also I'm thinking about trying GHB as it is good for TD and Parkinsons even though I don't have them.

I am dropping out of school bc of this I am so depressed. I may sue my former psychiatrist anyway like you said but Johnson and Johnson should be sued most of all..thanx for the replies keep them coming
please...~infectedmushroomz

Re: Risperdal messed me up

How long has SWIY been off medication? SWIY should get back to normal over time, I know people who suffered lowered libido and erection after long time use of paroxetine.

In SWIM's case when he came off paxil, he just was overwhelmingly horny for a few days, then his sexual appetite decreased which kept him worried long time (probably just paranoia) Things return to normal after a month.

The only thing that truly helped SWIM when on paxil to increase libido was MJ. He tried ginkgo (nothing) yohimbine (helps to an extent but not enough) and other supplements like kava, damiana. Nothing reversed SSRI induced sexual impairment, not even MJ, although weed was the only thing that could improve his libido.

Re: Risperdal messed me up

Yes, this is after discontinuing the drug, swimīs sex drive was zero after stopping Fluoxetin (SSRI) for months! He nearly went mad about it, ītil he found out it was -or most probably was the Prozac he took and not a heart-attack, high blood pressure or anything else life threatening, aslong with an ACTh supression from excessive corticosrteroids use.

Viagra helps although sometimes makes swimīs nose swell, but heīs on corticosteroids roight now and some ephedrine intra nasally helps also.

Levitra seems to do well also.
As does some HCG and testosterone, with anti-estrogens, so heīs slimming and fighting his depression ion the most excellent way a drug could ever perform it with testosterone.Nothign beats it, and totally benign compared to the other psychiatric crap and benign in its true nature, too.

Re: Risperdal messed me up

problems with antipsychotics are mostly associated with extra pyramidal symptoms, or EPS. if she gave you risperdal for pain you really should sue. she shouldnt have a medical liscence.

Re: Risperdal messed me up

I had severe anxiety and was slightly delusional b/c of the pain she said it had nothing to do with the pain so I guess to her it wasn't all pain although it was proven to be all pain/lack of blood flow due to a tighting of the trigeminal nerve so it would be hard to sue...It was my fault b/c I used to crack my jaw with the palm of my hand to try to fix my underbite. My orthodontist never pointed it out to me either but my mouth was crooked for years and I had no idea where the pain was from after I did it. I had to pull the top and bottom of my jaw to get them back and now I have degenerative arthritis in the joints. I also had an MRI done of my head in the Summer b/c I thought it was a tumor and it shouwed one region had a lot of blood the other had less. I even took topamax for over a month in September 06 100mg from a gp and it worked the first week and stopped working after that. My former psychiatrist called the GP and said it was all in my head but I had to disprove it to everyone myself.

The ssris never diminished my sex drive at all I believe b/c chronic pain and dopamine
http://opioids.com/pain/brain.html

Risperdal ruined me though b/c it shut down everything.

I don't want to do hormone treatments I am only 22. I feel like I should be horny without it. I have been off all drugs for 6 months. And I read that HRT don't always make people horny with my condition b/c the brain is the major cause even though it might slightly help by activating it. ephedrine sounds like a good idea but what about GHB? I wonder if I can convince a doctor for a prescription of xyrem. I recently saw a new psychiatrist b/c I have been in anger fits about this and she said I should try wellbutrin. I decided against it though b/c I don't think it will work maybe one time. I need something to strengthen the receptors before I try anything. I think that is the key to getting back.

Re: Risperdal messed me up

I hate to be a cold shower or wet blanket but - many guys past 20ish (which is when adolescense ends) find their sex-drive has diminished greatly from where it was at 16 - 18. Many guys actually feel relieved as they no longer have to think about sport's scores to stand up and get off a bus.

So much of this change MIGHT be natural.

Re: Risperdal messed me up

i agree it might change a little but not 90%. Like it goes down very little every year or so maybe 1% in ur 20s...But actually it reaches a peak in testosterone at 25. Im just 22. From horny as hell before risperdal from not being able to get an erection ever this is not possible it wasn't the drug. This was 100% caused by the drugs not by nature. B/c my semen is watery and the volume is 1/10 of what it used to be and orgasm's are not as intense. Also i can't get erect without rubbing it for 10 minutes. Its very weird. And it is damn near impossible to even jerk off 2 times a week. Last year I could do it 2 times or more a day if i wanted.

How would something like cocaine effect a person with potentially damaged receptor sites such as this?

Exacerbate the problem from over-stimulation?

Re: Risperdal messed me up

No doubt about it, maybe its your overweight that you gained on this drug, too.

Swim was probably forced taking this this drug over 6 weeks as high dosed as possible to cure his homosexuality as well as his sportive succes he was inevitably going to have.

One should be a fuckinī sex machine until your 30ies at least. and swimīs havign erections like always, by just relaixing or doing his shopping or so ;-)

Although something happened, the orgasm takes way too long to come by, like 45 minutes or an hour and he doesnīt get it as often as he could, like before and it seems like he has to try several times before the state of arousal reaches his penis so that itīll stay erected...

when before he was able to jerk off 5-13times a day, today heīs lucky if he gets it done 2x a day or 3-4times every second day maybe 8 times when he had an inspiration, but itīs more effort and heīs feeling the plateau and donīt come, although he should, he donīt which is frustating or a kind of, becasue swim lived for the orgasms, and when i.e. he had a cold, lying in bed he would have at least 13 without too much of a hassle, but after 4 years now, itīßs slowly returnign to normal although his circadian day-night rythm is still destroyed and hsi sex live still altered, it could wel be his chronich pain condition and/or the steroids, although the steroids used to get swim the most reliable circadian day-night rhythm heīs ever had.

Swims body still feels sore, 4 years after the 6 weeks treatment and heīs lost completly the feeling for his body(which was absolutely perfect btw), which is now slowly returning... -the muscles just donīt work, itīs like battery acid that was put into his venes during this "therapy" and his resting pulse went from 38 to over 60, he had 3% body fat, after the 6 weeks he had nearly 10% which is a catstrophy in terms of power/weight ratio, not to say that this is particularly dangerous to get down from 3-6hours train to zero and less train a day.

Swim went mad, because he could train and sleep like he wanted to on roids, feeling the best way he ever did in his live and now they seem to do hardly anything but keepiong him from crawling on the floor because of his back pain and the lactitc acid feel he has ever since his therapy, although since short , itīs getting slowly better, with a decent roid-stack, started a few months ago . heīsn still full of anger because this destroyed what was supposed to be swimīs only and last time looking youthfully good and being selfaware of this fact, being on top, and sober for years, so to say.knowing what he havenbīt had an dnow had and wanted and how things are supposed to be in life, the only time heīd had insurance money which really was ome money in this time of his life, all taken away, stigmatized, one of the waiters seemed to inform the scene, because he showed on the location where swim was and greeted him, so maybe everyone knew and maybe that was the reason why swim could have left it out seing the scene for the next three years, though before he could get anyone he wanted after that, he didnīt hardly get a blow job per year to do except for some GI.

So whatīs that, terror, driving one into suicide or psychotherapy? Oh, Iīve forgotten itīs exactly the same. ))

For every committed suicide youīll save at least 120.000€ on resources if he was employed for producing fake-fun-vomit and about 2 millions if he was injured like swim and going to be unemployed or even worse, subject to care about.

Re: Risperdal messed me up

All the weight I gained on this drug has been lost and then some. I weighed 150 starting out and went to about 180ish. Now I weigh 145 pounds. I lost all the weight with a strict organic diet. Also my tits go in and out like they become really small and then really big the way it was when on Risperdal. I dont have breasts really anymore either just nipples that constantly change sizes from large to very small. Is this normal? Also who is swim? thanx ~infectedmushroomz

ok I read the rules before i apologize for my ignorance. I don't want to get banned this site has a lot of great information and users. I kept seeing the acronym SWIM everywhere and didn't know what it meant. I dont want to sound stupid again but when someone uses SWIM in situations are they just theoretically true or actually based on truth like in this particular case mentioned by co-incidence?

Re: Risperdal messed me up

There shouldnīt ne any hard tissue under the nipples to begin with, which is called gynaecomasita, over-enlargement of breast tissue in men.

Nipples shouldnīt get sensitive to touch, itīs caused by a prolactinogenic action of the neuroleptic drug, and once this tissue has established, itīs subject and in much more sensitive way to hormonal changes in your body, that everyone encounters during the day or the year.
Only solution would be a surgery, or if it isnīt too severe it may disappear by itself, but swim has the same problem as swiy although maybe more severe, so swim wasnīt only stigmatized in this 6 weeks, he now has bitch-titts and is suspect to the suspicion that heīs eventually too stupid doing a proper testosterone cycle,
like all the other "psychos" or one sees, heīs just having plain bitch-titts, luckily not that bad and one wouldnīt call it titts, cause itīs more like a hard under-cup under normal looking nipples.

Re: Risperdal messed me up

i think i grew skin underneath and it did go away to a large extent except maybe slightly bigger than before but barely noticeable at all. The sensitivity of my nipples has increased tremendously and is annoying bc I want them small again like they used to be. They sometimes get really really small in cold weather a state I was used to always seeing them and then they just get bigger in hot weather or when I am stressed. Im planning on relaxation therapy and super diet in the upcoming months to fix the shit all the drugs I took did to me...My prolactin levels are mid-high which was definitely from the Risperdal. I don't have prolactenemia But taking a dostinex at this point would be ineffective until my dopamine receptors are strengthened again. I was thinking about doing Meth at one time but I think even a stimulant could give me tardive dyskenesia. Does anyone know any way of strengthening synapses particularly for dopamine?

Men's nipples are quite capable of being very sensitive! Where the heck did you get this from?? Having your nips played with can be VERY arousing! In fact I think I'll....OwooooooooooHooooooooooooo!!

Lordy! Some people just never get it! (and ya wonder why?)

Re: Risperdal messed me up

Yeah, of course, titt-torque is very much fun, as well as other things doing with your manly nipples and the suprise that it really is a cool thing is an exrta bonus

But they shouldnīt hurt, by just putting on a t-shirt or moving around with your arms at certain angles.Swim had before just nipples and zero fat, it was a plain breast with the only elevation of the nipples as nipples.

I donīt know what to do to "strenghten" dopamine receptors, for swim testosterone does wonders as he says, but thatīs all I know.

Re: Risperdal messed me up

testosterone therapy is a very big step in one's life. If done long enough the body no longer produces testosterone on its own so I don't think I want to do that. Also it is very difficult to maintain normal levels with it and can throw the body off balance in more ways sometimes. Although sometimes I believe it is necessary but hopefully I don't have to resort to it. Also you need to balance shit out with estrogen. Without some control natural production will shut down pretty soon and the estrogen (estrodial) will shoot up.

Re: Risperdal messed me up

Swim have taken Risperdal since 1999 - 8 years and have found it to be an very effective anti-psychotic. In swim meth days, those tablets were worth their weight in gold. It was the only thing that kept swim's sanity. Without them swim probably be in a psycho ward. They do put weight on you, but regarding the sex drive swim have really did not notice a decrease. However swim does subscribe to the Playboy channel 24/7 (better than viagra), and that is a great way to get a woody fast. Most women are cool with that - they enjoy watching too. The babes are hot on that channel. Boing!!! Must be 18 to subscribe.

Re: Risperdal messed me up

yeah but if you take it on and off with meth it counteracts the effects. Try taking 6mg for 4 months and see if you don't lose it. I took it without meth maybe i should try meth in cycles to get it back.

Re: Risperdal messed me up

SWIM opinion is that the Dopamine nuerons have shrunk, become less dendritic, and produce less enzimes to make dopamine, or have been killed off.

SWIM claims Risperdal causes Parkinsonian Syndrome. Which means that the side effects resemble Parkinsons Disease. True Parkinsons Disease is neurodegeneritive on its own. But clinical trials with GDNF shows that PD patients can regrow neurons.

Does anyone know if the brain can regenerate without using GDNF for someone that doesn't have Parkinsons? Isn't Parkinsons caused by metal toxins which is why they can't regenerate dopamine? So my real question is can these nuerons be regenerated in the brain even ones that have died can they be replaced with new ones in a 22 year old's body that is taking organic foods and mega doses of vitamins get plenty of rest and learns meditation?
