Swim is a semi-regular user of codeine who has recently become a little disappointed with the weakening buzz he gets from codeine due to tolerance.
Typically, he takes codeine on an empty stomach assuming that it'll hit harder. This morning however, at about 3.30am he ate some cake because he couldn't sleep. Then about 20 minutes later he took about 80mg of codeine because he still couldn't sleep. 90mgs is a very low dose for Swim, but usually enough to help him sleep (anything more than 150mg has the opposite effect).
What surprised Swim was how much more intense this experience was compared to a normal "empty stomach" experience with the same ampunt. It took way longer to kick in, but when it did, it didn't seem to lack any relative intensity (possibly had more?) and it lasted for ages!
Is it possible that a little bit of food would potentiate codeine? Swim's theory is that perhaps it staggers the amount reaching the liver so that the good enzymes (codeine -> morphine) aren't saturated and less gets shunted off to the bad enzyme (codeine -> norcodeine). What do others think?
Swim may try this again with a significantly larger amount of codeine.
Food itself is a much too general category to call it a potentiator. What kind of cake was it? Did SWIT normally take it at a different time (temporal tolerance) than he normally does? Was it an extra long time between dosages?

Perhaps "potentiate" was the wrong word. I guess what Swim's trying to say is that he could've been wrong to assume that codeine would work better on an empty stomach. Perhaps having a small amount of food in one's stomach will actually enhance the high rather than degrade it, as Swim initially assumed.
Ahhhhhh..... The infamous Boston Bun, know to cause a rash of od's all over New England. SWIM knows what you're getting at - maybe the potentiation is present on an empty stomach, but maybe it really isn't grossly significant. Maybe the ease you put your body in by not being starving makes for a better trip.
Alright! Swim tested his new theory today with about 320mg of codeine and was blown away. He has taken this amount many times before but always on an empty stomach. Today, he ate some cake (Swim likes cake) about 40 minutes before the codeine and couldn't believe how much it improved the intensity, euphoria, and above all the duration and afterglow of the trip! It also reduced the mild irritation he usually gets in his guts. What a breakthrough!!!
Maybe sugar plays a role in boosting the metabolism.....
And swim enjoys cake as well - What's not to like - icing? The delicious inner cake? Nothing - It's all good.
to avoid nausea, swim cannot possibly take any opiates without food due to super sensitive stomach. otherwise she gets unrelenting nausea...
best foods for swim have been bready things and cake }
having organic banana walnut today. mmmmm... no nausea and feeling good. (but there are disadvantages in terms of swim's plans for becoming a perfect size0!)
