Tesco's 'magic mushrooms' sparks drugs row
PC and drug sensationalism gone mad. This from The Metro (UK):
Tesco's 'magic mushrooms' sparks drugs row Monday, April 16, 2007 ![]() Real thing: The class A drug Tesco has been accused of making a joke out of drug abuse by selling 'magic' mushrooms. The supermarket giant has put stickers containing the words 'magic in pasta'on packs of its closed-cup variety. Adrug support charity yesterday criticised the move and consumers are demanding that the mushrooms be taken off the shelves and repackaged. Shopper Jenny Amphlett complained to Tesco after spotting the stickers in the chain's Stafford branch. She said: 'I couldn't believe it when I saw it, and it worries me that Tesco is promoting or condoning drug use. 'It could be that someone in the product- marketing team is playing a prank – unless they were really naive enough not to be aware of magic mushrooms. 'Whatever the case, it seems completely inappropriate for a family supermarket like Tesco to associate itself with drugs.' She added: 'There are so many people trying to overcome drug addictions and there are problems with young people getting into drugs, but here we have a store that is making fun of it.' Sue Hallett, of Staffordshire drug support charity ADSiS, said: 'It is not good and should have been avoided by Tesco.' Magic mushrooms are known for their hallucinogenic properties. They are now a class Adrug, having become popular in the 1970s as a legal alternative to LSD. A Tesco spokesman said the stickers were meant as a useful cooking tip and there was 'absolutely no sinister connection' between them and the drug. |

Re: Tesco's 'magic mushrooms' sparks drizzle in a thimble
I'd think the above does more to promote the use of shrooms than anything Tesco might have done. Right on, Metro!
And now, to get bent out of shape over nothing at all: Quote:
None, you say? What, then, does one thing have to do with the other? They're both "DRUGS!"? Heaven forbid. I'd be more inclined to get my nose out of joint over Tesco selling cigarettes — speaking of people trying to overcome addictions, koff koff — or coffee, that demon stimulant. Here's wishing that prohibition would end, so folks could get educated without prejudice — no more "hoiks, Martha, them shroomers makes ya see things what ain't there! mus' be th' work of th' divvil!" — and journalists would have to find something else to display their ignorance about. /obligatory rant |

Re: Tesco's 'magic mushrooms' sparks drugs row
i went to sobey's the other day, and discovered, to my utter horror, that they were actually SELLING drugs in the back of the store! they called this drug den a "pharmacy".
well i would have nothing to do with this corrupt store, i had to get out of there. imagine my horror when on the way out i spotted yet more drugs, tobacco and caffeine! these weren't even hidden away in the back, they were being openly sold at the entrance of the store. the latter was even being sold to children! |

"All things are poison and nothing is without poison, only the dose permits something not to be poisonous"
True. Even water is poisonous! Too much water and you can de-salt your body and die. And poisons can be helpful, like foxglove... in small doses. or DXM

Re: Tesco's 'magic mushrooms' sparks drugs row
Wait so it's a sticker that says "magic"....with normal mushrooms inside. What's the big deal again? Mushrooms are good for you and there fungus that can grow in horrible conditions...that's pretty magical.
God, some people think to hard... |
