Immune to Adderall

Hello, SWIM is a newb to this site, but not a newb to adderall, or most drugs for that matter. SWIM has been taking adderall for over 5 years, the entire time swim took drug vacations due to tolerance. SWIM has taken all adderall, starting with 5mg IR once a day to 20mg IR twice a day, and even then SWIM would take the 20mg 3 to 4 times a day. SWIM would always run out early, and these were forced drug holidays which SWIM guess was good in a way.

When SWIM would be waiting for his script, it was horrible. SWIM had no energy, and could hardly stay awake. SWIM would sleep up to 16 hrs a day and often be very depressed.

Several Times SWIM tapered off addy bc SWIM felt like he had become too reliant and addicted to it, and that SWIM couldnt function without it. To do this SWIM switched to XR and dropped 5mgs each month. This also was no fun and felt crappy the entire time. After a few months off addy, SWIM was fine and back to his normal self. Then SWIM returned to college and felt he needed to go back on in order to finish school.

It started off great, SWIMs tolerance went back to zero and it was working fine. Then 2 times while SWIM was in-between scrips SWIM had a large paper due, and was unable to complete it without addy. SWIM handed it in late after SWIM had refilled his script and received a D because of its lateness.

From this SWIM decided that he no longer could go a week without it bc something would always be due in 1 of his 5 classes. So SWIM figured out that his Dr didnt pay attention to the dates and would always write him a new script. The pharmacy however kept track and would not refill early. So SWIM simply began alternating between 2 pharmacies and would never be without addy.

As you would expect SWIM developed a high tolerance to it. Such a high tolerance that SWIM is now immune to it. Whats really weird is that when SWIM took a few 15mg IRs, he would actually get really tired and kinda dopey feeling. One time SWIM decided he would take 5/15mg IRs and then that would have to work. Nope, SWIM ended up going to sleep for a few hours an hour after he took them.

Has anyone else ever experienced this? SWIM has been doing some research here and found some good info. SWIM obviously needs to take a drug vaca but with so much schoolwork he feels he never can.

SWIM read about using magneseum to help reduce tolerance but never saw an actual mg dosage. SWIM read the on-going debate whether DXM actually helps or not (the jury is still out). SWIM read a little about Nootropics and have no idea what those are, and is about to research them more. SWIM is also taking wellbutrin and lexapro which he knows deal with dopamine and seratonin but not sure how they act with regards to adderall. SWIMs Dr is so stupid about this stuff, she told him they dont affect the adderall at all and after reading this board SWIM sees that is not true. So if knowlegable people could please respond to the questions and experiences posted here SWIM would greatly appreciate it.

Re: Immune to Adderall

SWISven has experienced very much the same thing as SWIY has. He also has experience with bupropion (wellbutrin) and after he stopped taking that of his own accord, things began to look up. SWISven just ended his two-month long drug vacation of most stimulants, and really even 10mg Adderall gives a positive effect towards work. 20 mg insufflated now brings back some old feelings SWISven would normally expect from 60, etc. Another D-F user recommended SWISven take things with phenylalanine, and he also has been supplementing with 5-htp and experimenting with DMAE, which has possibly reduced his immense tolerance. I hope that was helpful.

Re: Immune to Adderall

Thank you sven for taking the time to reply to SWIMs post and yes, SWIY were very helpful.

SWIM hasnt heard of phenylalanine or DMAE, can SWIY explain their functions to SWIM and the dosages? SWIM will also search this board for more info on these. SWIM read about 5-htp and has heard about it before so now SWIM plans on adding it to his list.

SWIM really needs to, and wishes he could take a month or 2 drug holiday but SWIM is so addicted to addy he really suffers bad withdraw. SWIM is so reliant on addy for energy without it getting out of bed is hard. SWIM guesses he should just quit complaining, suck it up and just do it though huh? Anyone have any suggestions to help with withdraw? coffee dosnt work for SWIM, all it does is make him jittery but he is still sleepy, SWIM can totally feel how it is not hitting the right receptors. Red bull dosnt work for SWIM either. It actually makes him feel really bad, when SWIM is taking addy red bull works just like it is supposed to but when SWIM is going through withdraw it makes him feel sick and kinda depressed, weird.

Is there anyone who can explain to SWIM how and why magnesium works to cut tolerance to addy, also the dosing needed?

Thanks again to anyone who helps.
