Psychedelics and lost/stolen objects

As some of you might know, some mesoamerican indians have used and still use hallucinogens like Psilocybe mushrooms, Salvia divinorum, Morning glory/Ololiuqui, Datura and Peyote.

I have read several texts which say that the indians believed that hallucinogens would make them discover the location of a lost/stolen object or the thief who stole it. I have read this about ololiuqui, datura and peyotl. Some indian shamans also predict the future using hallucinogenic drugs.

What do you think about this? Bullshit? The imagination of some primitive tribes? Maybe psychedelics work on certain parts of the brain that might store information about when and where a certian object was lost? Can hallucinogens predict the future? Are supernatural entities at work?

I personally think hallucinogens might help the user remember where s/he lost a certain object, because especially the psychedelics cause reliving of past and forgotten memories. I don't have any opinions on the stolen objects and divination.

Might be an interesting subject for a debate.

Re: Psychedelics and lost/stolen objects

I think that the use of psychedelics for divination or recovering lost items depends a lot upon how the user knows how to use his mind. Shamans and their ilk train themselves with meditation and learn how to control their own minds , not to mention the obvious ability to really "connect" with nature, and other people..their empathic abilities, is that what it's called?

.. so maybe psychedelics expand those abilities , which enables them to go beyond the normal capacity of the mind? it's an interesting phenomenon when the most (seemingly) unknowable things (like the future, or anything with tons of detail) can be revealed by a person who has dedicated his life to the power of his mind and nature's boosters in that area.

The eye sees information and the brain stores it, you just cant think of it consciously. People have been known to get hypnotized and be able to describe certain places and objects with accurate details, which you would never be able to do normally. Don't believe me? Try drawing accurately the front of your school.

Re: Psychedelics and lost/stolen objects

There have been many cases of people using the equivalent of dowsing to locate missing people. One such case happened near where I am. A missing child had wandered away from an outdoor campsite. An extensive search was launched - to no avail. Then a woman who claimed to be able to map-dowse appeared. With a topo map, she found the exact location of the child. The searchers went to this area, which was several miles away from the search area. And there was the kid. Alive and well.

How did this work? By what mechanism of the mind? I have my theories.

Re: Psychedelics and lost/stolen objects

Swim was on a high dose of mushrooms and harmala last weekend and lost his backpack and it took him like an hour to find that motherfucker even though it was basically sitting in front of him. So swim would have to disagree.
