Grinding/chopping weed- Best way? + Pollenators - what's the point?

Hi,
What's the best way to prepare (chop, grind .etc) weed for smoking?

A lot of people seem to have pollenator grinders. I reluctantly purchased one on recommendations from friends.

Basically SWIM doesn't want to save THC crystals for a "rainy day". SWIMs not a crystal hoarder. SWIM wants the whole of the cannabis with all its components each time SWIM smokes it. The logic escapes SWIM why people would seperate out the active component of weed before they smoke it only to indulge themselves when that active component has built up enough. The THC and CBD are best consumed together right, they work together, surely it is a more "balanced" high(not too tired)?

SWIM's friends say a pollenator grinder is necessary if you want to get the crystals at all. SWIMs friends say the crystals will just get stuck in the grinder otherwise.

SWIM is thinking the best method is probably just a chopping board and blade. This way you should get the crystals just fine.

SWIYs opinion?

SWIM either tears it up with her fingers or uses little scissors. A friend of SWIM's bought a salt/pepper grinder from the store and she says that works great for her.

A pollen grinder doesn't necessarily remove large amounts of THC from a pinch of weed, it just captures the leftover kief that could otherwise be lost in the process of grinding up one's weed. These grinders collect kief very slowly and ultimately don't take much away from the weed at all. They're just very handy when one builds up an amount of crystals as a bonus for putting a lot of weed through their grinder.

The best way to collect crystals would be to have several very large buds and gently rub them across a large silk screen where the kief would fall beneath. It's very difficult to gather and hold onto crystals using a chopping board and a blade in SWIM's opinion.

electric grinder's are easily the best pollenators. after grinding up an 1/8th or so you have a pure pollen bong, or a nice top layer for a doob.

that said they ain't the best for actually grinding weed, but a cool novelty.

Why not make hash out of it?


Smoking leftover kief is ok. Its better when sprinkled into a blunt (sometimes alot of it) or with a bong hit. Swim prefers to just cut up weed with sharp little scissors or if thats not available just uses his hands. He doesn't care to use grinders as he always wants to chop the weed up more, and the kief collector doesn't really matter.

SWIM uses nail scissors or a cheep grinder, pollinators are good for collecting keif, but if thats not SWIYs thing fair enough... salt and pepper grinders SWIM found although producing a very nicely ground product, crushed too many of the keefe crystals and mashed them in the grinder, meaning the ground up bud has lost much of its potency. Grinders are fairly cheap, and very good at what they do, invest in one and SWIY won't regret it , (unless they get done for paraphernalia )

SWIM just bought a grinder that has a special screen in it. when you spin the top, the weed is brokenup into small stringy pieces which are perfect for rolling, and the fine crystals are supposed the fall through the screen for.........hashish?? not sure
SWIM didnt see the point in the screen after a couple uses, and took it out. now it works great, and SWIM's joints and blunts have never been better

Why take out the screen and miss out on that bonus kief? The gradual collection of trichomes may seem like an arduous task if only small amounts are put through the grinder but when enough eventually gathers up, it's a welcome ultra-potent bonus.

SWIM had thought of that....but wouldnt that mean the leafy substance SWIM grinded would then be less potent, meaning his joints and blunts wouldnt be as good??

Yes, but much of the hash that will be saved behind the screen would usually be lost on SWIYs fingers while rolling, while moving he ground bud about, or just left stuck to the blades/teeth of the grinder. Most users in many places in europe and SWIM would guess the States as well hash that is bought tends to be impure... Hash collected by your grinder in this way will be pure! (although perhaps a tad green, but SWIM prefers green to "contains old oil, dyes and tyres"!)
